Want to buy an AX8... should I wait?

Either way, if/when a successor to the AX8 does come out it would have to be a significant enough upgrade to justify a new model but then added features like dual amp, more FX blocks,CPU power, etc would make it compete directly with the Axe FX 3. So... It would HAVE to be more expensive than...

Want to buy an AX8... should I wait?

I have a feeling that the successor to the AX8 will likely be a floor model of the Axe FX II. That's what *I* would do if I were Fractal. It would be a significant upgrade to the AX8 but still wouldn't kill the market for the AFX3. If that ends up being the case it will be quite a bit more...

I had two main points 1) wouldnt it be cool 2) would it be technically feasible. Both YES. So I stand by what I said. Personally I love the ultra and for right now probably wont upgrade until the Fx3 comes out ;)

And by the way.. who's to say that FAS is complete done with the Ultra? Cliff mentioned FAS working on an effects only floor-based unit and who knows.. they might would make a smaller cheaper single spaced Standard/Ultra at some point to tap a lower end market. Hell, Line 6 STILL makes the Pod...

Axe Edit can send presets directly to the unit to "audition" so maybe even if the Rom was full a little app could send a G2 amp to the ultra temporarily. ;P Look,, I'm completely satisfied with the Ultra so i dont care at this point if its that much better and I cant really afford the FxII...

Ok.. so add it to the regular firmware. Cliff said that basically the fx2 was two ultra cpus.. one for amps and the other for effects. So there could be a "JCM800 G2" for example, thrown in the firmware update just the hell of it. So we could A/B it with the Jcm800 G1. I think its a great...

So... it is likely possible but you couldnt really add much else as far as effects.. so it would really only be practical for demonstrating to ultra owners how awesome G2 modelling is.. :)

In an interview Cliff basically said the G2 modelling would max out the ultra but it didn't sound impossible.. it just sounded like it wouldn't do anything else BUT the amp block and maybe one effect. They could add an Fx2 "showcase" preset or something that was locked or read only at patch 385...

Never say never! :) It could be done. I'm not saying they would do it.. but it'd be neat and i do think it would cause a lot of people to "upgrade" to the Fx2.. IF it really is as good as folks are saying.

The neverending "pedals in the loop or out in front" debate

If compression, drive and wah all sound better in front of the amp than why would you want them in the loop to start with? So you can turn them all on or bypass them all at the same time? If youre going to stomp them individually you might as well put them in front if they are true bypass...

@danpluso I would say the eleven would be great for what you want to do and I just sold mine for $450 with Pro tools 8 LE. I got rid of it because it was limited on FX and "tweakability." The amps and FX that it does have do sound good and for the price its nice. Are you going to play live...

I really don't know if it does or not since I still haven't used it but I know there are free drum vst plugins and free drum loops out there. You could always rough up a demo song in Riffworks. Then mix it down to a stereo track and import it into Reaper and play along with it like a click...

Ive only ever used riffworks for "sketching" rough song ideas. I would think something like Reaper Or Sonar would be better but I only ever used the Riffworks "lite" version. I personally use Sonar Home 6 studio XL. Its a little dated but it does everything I need. I'm going to download...

I have a little Line 6 Toneport DI which i used with Pod Farm, Amplitube and stuff like that. It only has one intrument input but for now I'm just going to run the Axe fx mono into that. Its 44khz/16bit I think or maybe 48/24bit.. not sure but should do fine for now. I will eventually buy...

We can get the Fx2 after the Fx3 comes out.. lol And you are right.. the Ultra was good enough for John Petrucci,Dave Mustaine and Chris Broderick before the Fx2 came out. :) I'm sure my head will explode as it is.. the Fx2 might be too much too soon :)

My question is.. if the Axe FX is many notches above the Pod HD, Eleven Rack and other competing units.. How much MONEY are those notches worth? :) I just sold my 11R for $450 and after ebay gets their cut I'll probably end up with $400 and I paid $650.. So I lost quite a bit of money trying...

That's true.. another thing I don't like about the eleven rack is that Digidesign/Avid really doesn't seem to care too much about guitarist and seem to be focused almost entirely on the high end studio professionals. This is understandable since that is where most of their money comes from...

congrats! Did you get an Ultra? I'm probably going to go with the standard (if I can find one). I'm moving from the Eleven Rack and it almost did what I needed. I'm sure the standard will blow me away. Especially in the FX department.. which is one of my biggest nags about the 11R.

How complicated can a patch get on the Standard?

yeah, I honestly think I could just get by with the Ultra and nothing else. I just don't know if I'd use are the abilities it has over the Standard. I've seen Std go for about $1000 and the Ultras are selling for about $1300. I'm sure its worth the $300 extra but I just don't know if I need...
