Getting back into guitar after 1+ year of not playing - suggestions needed

So as the title states I haven't picked up one of my guitars (for more than 5 minutes) in over a year. Pretty sad as I now have around 12 years and a shit tonne of money invested into this wonderful hobby. Basically what I'm looking for are some suggestions on how to get back into playing...

Lots of awesome info in here. I think I will go with a cheaper pair like the Senn hd558 or ATH-M50 for the time being. I just need a solid set for jamming/tracking right now. Thanks guys.

Looking for something mainly just for practicing with the Axe II, and eventually recording/mixing. I would love to go the monitor route but being in an apartment is a limiting factor. I should also note that I'm a newbie when it comes to recording/mixing, so that may be something to consider...

USB driver not working for some reason

As soon as I open midi ox a message comes up saying that there are no midi input devices connected, even though my axe is connected to PC via usb and I can play through my monitors. I tried options>midi devices and the in and out for the axe isn't even showing up. also checked the axe usb...

My set up: Ibanez S770PB-->Axe FX2--Yahmaha HS80M's I have a set of Bareknuckle Aftermaths in the Ibanez. This preset IMO sounds like crap; really lifeless and thin sounding. This is my first go at getting a tone I like through a pair of monitors so I need some input. Thanks.

Am I using my noise gate correctly?

Try turning your gain way down, maybe around 3-4. Throw a Drive block right in front of your amp block (TS808, Drive: 0, Level: Max, and adjust Tone to taste). That should tighten it up a bit, you might even find that you can turn the gain down even more after the drive block is in there.
