DOKKEN - Back For The Attack tone w/patch

There's nothing added to the guitar track, just a limiter on the Stereo Out to bring up the level a few dbs, doesn't affect the sound though

DOKKEN - Back For The Attack tone w/patch

Hey guys!🤘 Back in 2013 I created my first Back for the Attack-inspired patch, figured it was time to re-build it from scratch :D! Needless to say this sounds way closer to the original to my ears, very happy with how it came out (please note, the IR I chose is crucial to the final sound, more...

Dokken - Standing In The Shadows SOLO cover

Hey dudes! This was a super early, pre-release version of what years later became the GGD Zilla IRs plugin, can't remember the specific one I used but I'm pretty sure it was a 57 mic'ing a v30 on a 4x12!

Some '80s rock inspired goodness feat. Cygnus

If Chris DeGarmo and George Lynch made an album together in '87/'88, this is exactly how it would have sounded! Freakin love it!!

Producer Beau Hill (Ratt, Warrant, Winger, Steve Stevens) on Tone Talk

Another great interview by Marc Huzansky and Dave Friedman on Tone Talk (one of my favorite Youtube channels)! Beau Hill has produced some of my favorite bands from the 80s, he shares some great info/stories about working on those albums, highly recommended! 🤘

    EVH 5150III Red // METAL

Thanks guys! 🤘 Thank you Johnny! Radius is 16", very flat but not too flat like a 20", it's actually very comfortable to play. The stainless steel frets really make a huge difference, bends and vibratos feel super smooth! The neck is a beauty (quarter-sawn Wenge)

Tribute to Eddie Van Halen (w/ free patch)

Yeah this patch was created to be played on studio monitors and for direct recordings, If I'd have to play it through a PA I'd definitely filter out some lows and highs. Start with a low cut at 100hz/hi cut at 8khz and go by ear from there!

  32. ProgressiveRocco

Which 80's style hard rock and metal super strats should I consider?

Yep at the time of this video the guitar was still stock (JT6/J90c pickup), now it's got a Seymour Duncan JB and a black original Floyd, it was a direct replacement, but I've kept the stock mounting studs and inserts. My model 2 is an '87 so I'm pretty sure it should fit perfectly on yours as...
  33. ProgressiveRocco

Which 80's style hard rock and metal super strats should I consider?

My vote goes to the Charvel San Dimas, for the money it's hard to beat for the 80s stuff. I'm not a fan of the 1000 series Floyds though, so I'd probably replace that with a Made in Germany one. I've done that on all my 3 Charvels, no regrets! Neck heel is still in the classic "bulky" Fender...
  34. ProgressiveRocco

1980's STUDIO RACK CLEAN TONE (w/ free patch!)

Probably too hot and middy, if you have a guitar with HSS or HSH configuration you could use the bridge inner coil+middle, that should work just fine.
  35. ProgressiveRocco

1980's STUDIO RACK CLEAN TONE (w/ free patch!)

  37. ProgressiveRocco

1980's STUDIO RACK CLEAN TONE (w/ free patch!)

Hey everyone! :) Here’s my recreation of the classic L.A. studio tone from the 80s, made famous by players like Landau, Thompson and Lukather just to name a few! This is a completely re-worked patch (I also did one back some years ago for the Axe-Fx II), way better sounding and most importantly...

  50. ProgressiveRocco

Tribute to Eddie Van Halen (w/ free patch)

Just connect the reverb and delay to the main signal path (like the pitch block) and it should be fine!

  52. ProgressiveRocco

Tribute to Eddie Van Halen (w/ free patch)

If you swap the Plexi with the 6160 block (bass at 6, mids at 3 or 4, treble at 6), and keep the pitch detune and stereo delay on it's pretty much the Balance tone ;) I personally like that album, but I'm not a huge fan, I feel he really started to change his sound from that record, tons of gain...

Tribute to Eddie Van Halen (w/ free patch)

I think it's safe to say Eddie's passing left a void in the guitar world that will never be filled. In my opinion there's never been anyone so influential, inspiring and creative as EVH, he took what Hendrix did 10 years prior and brought it to a whole other level. The electric guitar as an...
  57. ProgressiveRocco

Van Hagar and beyond EVH - that detune effect?

His sound was definitely more chorus-y, I believe he was using the lexicon pcm 41 to get a chorus-like effect, but I personally prefer the fixed pitch detune, especially on rhythms, doesn't get as swirly/swampy but still retains a very similar feel!
  58. ProgressiveRocco

Van Hagar and beyond EVH - that detune effect?

^ ^ ^ ^ This ;) That's the setting I'm using, sounds spot on to my ears. Anything more than -9/+9 is too much for Ed's stuff IMO. I like to crank it to -11/+11 for more of a Chris Holmes tone, always loved his guitar sound on WASP's early stuff. 11/12 cents works great for Mick Mars/Dr Feelgood...
  59. ProgressiveRocco

Van Hagar and beyond EVH - that detune effect?

I personally love that VH era! I've got a (free) patch coming out in a few days which includes the harmonizer/detune effect, nails pretty much everything from 5150 and beyond 🤘🏻😉Gonna post it here on the forum as soon as the video is up!
  60. ProgressiveRocco

How to Get Periphery 4 Guitar Tone

99.9% sure the main amp throughout the album is the PVH 6160 Block, that's Misha's favorite, he goes over his patches quite often in his Twitch/Youtube streams. He also probably used the Friedman BE on the tighter/lower gain parts

    VAN HALEN - 5150 (1986) video w/patch

Thanks man, yeah as you said there have been so many firmware updates since this patch was made 6 years ago, it's gonna sound completely different now because of it unfortunately! You could use it as a starting point but you'll definitely have to tweak pretty much every block. The new one I'm...

Def Leppard's Phil Collen on the Axe-Fx III (new video interview)

Escape From New York // Main theme (cover)

Hey guys! Had some fun trying to recreate the main theme from John Carpenter's Escape From New York (1981), one of my all time favorite action movies! I've used a super simple patch with the 5150 block + clean boost (guitars are coming in at 1:54), played with a 7 string! 80s Synthwave/Retrowave track

thank you all! So glad you like it, really means a lot! :D Thanks man! The main bus compressor I'm using is the Slate FG-Grey (10ms attack, fastest release, 4 to 1 ratio, hi-pass filter set to 50hz to let some of the lows go through, aiming for about 2/3db of compression when the snare hits)...
