Hey Pete, Been using these A7X monitors since 2012 (Axefx2) and they have always sounded great. Checked them against a number of different brands at Guitar Center in 2012, they were the most evenly balanced and best-sounding monitors of the bunch. Leon Todd(2112) uses them and all his presets...

It'll ship on Monday. Had the same experience when I bought an Axefx3 on Friday.

    Paid presets ... pfff

I've always had good luck with Leon (2112) Todd's presets sounding identical on my rig. Maybe because he uses the same monitors that I do (Adam A7X)....

Knaggs Larry Mitchell Incoming - ARRIVED!!!!

I played Larry's Knaggs guitar at an Axefx get-together in Phoenix about 5 years ago. It was probably the most perfect setup guitar I've ever played, the action was so low you could have fretted the strings by blowing on them....That's all I remember, sorry. Larry is an amazing player and...

Who else is upgrading to Axe-FX III TURBO? :-)

Yeah, wasn't really the plan, but sold my FM3 after getting another AxeFX3. Then Matt announced the turbo version, so I sent my new Mk. 2 back on day 15, and pushed the turbo button. Those fullres IRs sounded great but were really thrashing the CPU.....

Who else is upgrading to Axe-FX III TURBO? :-)

My Turbo will be here Wednesday (ordered Friday). For the last 6 days, I've been Fractal-less for the first time since 2010. Only thing keeping me from severe withdrawals is my Lovepedal Purple Plexi....

What sub-$700 guitar sounds, but doesn't look/weigh, like a Les Paul?

Find an Edwards Les Paul, they can be very light and sound like a good Gibson. My 2012 E-LP-125/ALS is only 7 lbs 4 oz. and is the best LP I've owned.

  35. sandmannn69

    Dear Cliff

I doubt we'll ever see a FAS unit with a built-in expression pedal, as it would be a liability for the kind of high build quality that you see in an AX8 or an FM3. I personally prefer external pedals myself.
  36. sandmannn69

Have you found “your” amp in the FM3?

59 Bassman and the jumpered 100W plexi (actually these are about the only two I've tried with cygnus, just can't get off 'em). The volume roll-off on a strat with the plexi is ridiculously good.

    Sanding neck on Fool guitar

Thanks for the info. If I did anything to it, it would be sanding the neck down to bare wood, then sealing it. For now, I've hung it back up on the wall. I'd just buy another SG and call it done, but not a big fan of SGs (prefer LPs).

  45. sandmannn69

    Sanding neck on Fool guitar

No, I like the neck profile which is hard to find on a good SG these days (everything is that "slim taper" profile). Just wish it was smoother, which is why I am considering removing the paint, which is enamel/not smooth.
  46. sandmannn69

    Sanding neck on Fool guitar

I have a version of Clapton's "The Fool" SG and I'm thinking about sanding the paint off the back of the neck to improve the playability. It's a pretty heavy, textured finish, since it was hand-painted with oil-based enamels, like the original. Clapton did this to his original SG after the paint...

Story concluded: trying out a high-end acoustic

I just sold my Taylor 214ce, turns out I preferred my old Seagull mini jumbo to it, playing and soundwise. Like @Budda said, you should try out a bunch of different acoustics before settling on one for that kind of cash. You might be surprised what you can get for a lot less(or a lot more).

    Axe-Fx 3, FM3, and some advice

No, I have been using my A7X monitors since my first Axefx (Standard) in 2010, and they have sounded great with every Fractal product I've owned (Standard, Axefx 2, Ax8, Axefx 3, FM3). I'm sure the HS monitors sound good, too. Yamaha makes good stuff.

    Any EBMM owners?

I doubt it, we're talking about Music Man. BTW, I'm talking about the pickups without the boost/preamp enabled. It was much lower output than the Transition in the bridge of my 2013 Luke 3 HSS.

    Any EBMM owners?

Unfortunately, had to return it to Sweetwater. The pickups are really low output compared to the previous Dimarzio Transitions, couldn't get enough decent sounds out of it. I guess Lukather must've liked these pickups better when he switched to the Bogner Helios from the Ecstacy. Shame, as it...

A WTF Moment with the CAB block... :-)

From the wiki: Air Mixes some of the "direct" signal entering the Cab block with the "Cab-processed" signal leaving the Cab block. This adds some "air" to the sound, which some users find to add realism to the tone. It's not supported on the AX8. AIR FREQUENCY lets you adjust the cutoff...
