I would be happy if they have the same quality pitch block as the FX3.

You completely miss the point that you may be at a gig and need to build 80 presets between soundcheck and your first set.

    Waitlist Email

It wouldn't surprise me if they got several thousand signups in the first few minutes of the email. There are many people here that got on the list in the first 2-3 minutes and this forum represents only a small fraction of the Fractal user base.

    Scene Switching Lag Time

I dont know how long the gap is, it was something that bothered me with the AX8, but not with the FM3. It is pretty short.

Homebrew gadget to display EV-1 volume pedal position

There was one or two times when I was gigging that I couldnt hear myself. When I looked down at my board I noticed that the volume pedal was heel down. I put a couple of springs in the back part of the pedal to keep the pedal in the toe down position. It does work pretty well. Bit this seems...

Moving to fractal from helix, need help!

I play in an 80's arena rock band (Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Whitesnake, etc) and have been using the FM3 for a while now. My patches are pretty straightforward, but still pretty powerful. I use scenes and can get clean, dirt, heavy, and lead sounds among other options. I use a pair of Roland...

FM9 is perfect (an FM3 perspective)

    Why FM3 over FM9?

Not mine. I will likely replace my Helix with the FM3 for rehearsal.

Announcing the New FM9 Amp Modeler/FX Processor

My modeler needs to support 16 separate paths so the drummer can mic his drums through it as well as the rest of the band. Come on Fractal.

Fatigue with the "I am hitting the CPU limits" on the FM3 talk???

I am on the edge right about 80% or so. I would like to add a chorus but that puts me in the red. I should get rid of the reverb block as I mostly use the FM3 for gigging and dont typically need a reverb live. But it makes it sound so much better when I am noodling at home.

PSA - Check your guitar tone knob...

I found a little trick where I take the foam from one of my Dimarzio pickup cases and cut a disk out of it. I then put the disk on the post of the volume pot and put the knob on top. This gives me a bit of friction to help prevent turning so easily. It does help. Felt washers work great also.
  19. bdrepko

PSA - Check your guitar tone knob...

I find that as I play my hand hits the volume knob and slowly decreases as I go. I have to keep checking it to make sure it is all the way up. Especially live.
  20. bdrepko

How do you get your clean

100%. Add a little dirt with an SDD Preamp set in the drive block. I find a little hair on the clean makes it cut better in the band mix.
  21. bdrepko

New FM3 - where to start?

The tilt EQ in the amp block is amazing!

Yeah. I was lazy and didn't feel like typing all that. :)
  25. bdrepko

The tilt EQ in the amp block is amazing!

That what I love about Fractal. How many other modelers out there have pre and post EQ in the amp block? Not to mention a selectable boost with various types of drive in the amp block? I hardly ever use a drive block anymore in my presets.
  26. bdrepko

    FM3 Firmware Version 4.00

Yep. Same here. Reworked my main preset, going back to the 5150 50W Blue model for my heavy sound. A fellow musician wanted to play a couple songs during the gig, so I let him. Gave me a chance to go out in the audience and hear what my rig sound like. All I can say is DAMMMMMMN!
  27. bdrepko

    Reverb in serial vs parallel....

I do a similar thing but for different reasons. I run reverb and delay in parallel because I dont want reverb on the delay trails.
  28. bdrepko

    Marshalls sound bad

Most amps to me have too much bass on default settings. Very well could be the IR's that I use (OH MAR CB 412 EV). But, when I reduce the bass usually through low cuts in the amp block and cab block it sounds absolutely glorious.

    FM3 Firmware Version 4.00

There was an entire thread about the FM3 not sounding like the AXE3. It was stated by many folks that the amp modeling was identical between both products and there should be zero difference between them. Turns out there may be some truth to that.

I am going into the input of the AXE3 then from OUT3 into the instrument in of the SYN2. Fractal 4cm Club

I know this is an FM3 question, but I am currently using my AXE3 4CM with a Synergy Syn-2. I am amazed by how good this sounds. No need for humbuster cables here either. I may try to set it up with the FM3 at some point, but not sure if I want to deal with a bunch of long cables.

    FM3 + External Dual Footswitch = OMG 5?

I use 2 Roland FS7 dual footswitches. I use them to for scene changes, changing views, and for enabling/disabling the tuner. I like the FS7s because they are really compact. I also have an expression pedal connected via MIDI using a MIDI baby.

Have you found “your” amp in the FM3?

My favorite amp model changes over time and firmware changes. Some of them have been the 5153 Blue 100, Brit 800 Mod, Solo 100, and the JMP01Pre for my really driven sounds. I like the Dirty Shirley and Small Box for classic rock. I have always preferred the CAE+ Clean for clean sounds with a...

How much do I need an FC-6?

If you have the money to spend on an FC6 it is a worthwhile investment. If money is tight you can buy (2) two button footswitches fairly cheap and have 7 switches. That is still a pretty powerful system when you see what you can do with each footswitch.

    FM3 - running through ?

I usually go straight into the PA which is a Behringer X32. I monitor myself through the same monitor wedges that I use for vocals and the other guitar. Been doing this for many years. The only time I dont do this is if we are playing a club where we are not running sound. Then I will use a...

High and low cut option in the AMP block

In my understanding it is not a wall but a slope. It starts to cut the frequencies at the specified point. So not all content will be removed.
  62. bdrepko

High and low cut option in the AMP block

Is it actually before the preamp, or between the preamp and power amp (virtual)? The input EQ has low cut and high cut as well. Is that duplicate?
  63. bdrepko

High and low cut option in the AMP block

Ever since I have been using Fractal product (Axe FXII, AX8, AXE3, and FM3) I have always used the hi cut and low cut filters in the cab block. I typically use a low cut around 80Hz and a hi cut of around 7300 Hz. I have found this does a good job of getting rid of boom and fizz in the sound...

New Axe-Fx III Sounds Dark/Muddy, Advice?

To be honest, I am hardly ever able to get the tone on a video using the same preset. So many factors go into getting that sound. That doesnt mean that there are not killer sounds in the AXE3. I find that it is best to start with a preset I like and then modify to suit my taste.

    Let's see those FM3 rigs!

I had a lot better luck with the Line6 G10S system than the G10. The G10 does not give you control over what channel it uses and would always pick the channel that the bass players was using so my guitar would come out of the his bass amp. This happened numerous times and I tried resetting...

    Cygnus and the HBE

Personally, I always found the HBE models pretty bass heavy. I always had to use the bright switch and dial back negative feedback. I haven't listened to Cygnus V3 but Cygnus V1 is pretty awesome. Best HBE I have heard yet on any modeler.

    Fractal: The Next Generation?

True, but the power of changing things like the impedance curve, tonestack type, tonestack location, negative feedback, and tube types in an amp can dramatically change the sound and feel of an amp.
  86. bdrepko

    Axe-Fx III 16.00 Beta 11 "Cygnus" Firmware - Public Beta #8

I think this is going to be the next big thing in modeling. Seems like the amp modeling is pretty much there, but IR modeling has some room for improvement.
  87. bdrepko

    Axe-Fx III 16.00 Beta 11 "Cygnus" Firmware - Public Beta #8

Not sure what you are saying. My understanding is if you have 100 different mic positions you need 100 IRs that represent each of those position and the tool just indexes the correct IR based on the selection in the tool. What I am saying is those IRs require storage either on the Device or on...
  88. bdrepko

    Axe-Fx III 16.00 Beta 11 "Cygnus" Firmware - Public Beta #8

That would solve the problem with IR storage. But what do you do when you have IR captures of a single location? I guess IR mic movement could be disabled. Seems like some kind of EQ or IR (speaker) modeling would be the best solution for this kind of approach.
  89. bdrepko

    Axe-Fx III 16.00 Beta 11 "Cygnus" Firmware - Public Beta #8

Which means all those IRs of the same speaker consuming all the IR slots in the device. Which in turn means less choice in IRs.

I use it to increase delay level as I play up the neck. Very cool indeed!

    Axe-Fx III 16.00 Beta 11 "Cygnus" Firmware - Public Beta #8

My experience as well. I had a nice rack rig with an ADA MP2 and a 50W per channel Marshall power amp. It would sound great at one gig and then sound thin and anemic at another. I got into modeling because the other guitarist in the band had a Line6 AxSys 212 that sounded pretty good...
