    48th Street Custom Guitars

Looks similar to the ones that Dave played during that era. Although he had a different pickup configuration (HSH) and was outfitted with a Floyd Rose tremolo. Either way, that looks like a nice guitar you’ve got there. I’ve never picked up an ESP that wasn’t a really solid guitar. Even their...

    Blue Mix-Fi vs Sadie

Other than Blue classifying the Sadie as being premium consumer headphones intended for listening pleasure and the Mix-Fi being called studio grade headphones, I don’t see any difference either. Certainly nothing in the specs. Maybe there’s a slight difference in frequency response? I don’t...

    48th Street Custom Guitars

Without a pic, I’m at a little disadvantage. But when you say late 80s ESP Strat, it makes me think of the ESPs that Dave Murray (Iron Maiden) was playing in that era. (He switched from Fender for a bit.) Particularly on the Seventh Son of a Seventh Son tour in 1988. Is the one you bought like that?

    Recording guitars?

I usually try to get as close as I can to what I think will be the final guitar tone before recording. You’re right about tones that work in the mix not always being an absolute joy to play through though. What I sometimes do is record with a tone that’s fun to play through and gets the juices...

    Pro Tools installation question

If the plugins you purchased since running PT10 are AAX and not RTAS, they will run fine on PT12. Regardless of if the copy of PT10 that you inherited on that laptop is legit or not. (If it’s running without an iLok, it doesn’t sound like it’s legit.)

AxeFX and AX8 used for Prince sounding tones!

No idea how I missed this when it was originally posted, but that was awesome! Tones were stellar and funk-a-licious! Was the bass done via Fractal products as well? It sounded great! Super cool Minnesota sports montage too. I’m a Red Sox fan myself, but I still miss Kirby Puckett. Hell of a...

Glad to see they’re at least trying it. Just don’t let them tell you that the click is slowing down or speeding up. Lol Playing to a click is a learned skill for most people (myself included). Some people don’t use the Axe-FX for weed reasons. First off, I have no experience with Strandburg guitars or multi scale instruments. Great job as always, Rocco! A few of my favorite "under the radar" riffs from the 80s are "Sleepless Nights" and "Turn On The Action" by Dokken, "Bonecrusher" by Soulhat, "Soul Stealer" and "Ball and Chain" by Badlands, "1000 Eyes" by Loudness, and probably another million riffs that I can't...

Saw them two weeks ago in Phoenix, AZ. Almost flew to KC (where I grew up) to catch the show again there. Both bands were great when I saw them! Getting rid of string noise in quiet bits? (Sample provided)

As others have stated, it's just string noise. It drives me a little crazy on occasion too, but it's inherent in round wound strings. Does your band tune down, from standard A440 ?

Unless I'm mistaken...If you're using standard concert pitch as the reference point, (A=440Hz) and you're tuning the entire guitar down a whole step, your A is ringing at 391.995Hz. Not 432Hz. (Again, with A=440Hz being the reference point, and looking solely at the open A string, you're tuning...

Awesome cover of a classic song! I can't wrap my head around the fact that your daughter is only 16! That sounds like an "old soul" voice with plenty of mileage and experience on it. Recording Via SPDIF

Not sure what DAW you're using, but I record from the Axe via SPDIF as well. I'm using Pro Tools, and in the hardware drop down menu, I select SPDIF (RCA) as the clock source. I've never been able to get headphones to sound like an amp in the room, but I kinda feel like it's an unwinnable battle. You're mainly fighting physics here. Guilty as well. When I first wanted to get a guitar and learn to play, IF you could find a lefty, they were a bit more money than their right handed counterparts. How good is the clock in the Axe FX II?

Hmmm...did it change in a firmware revision, or is this specific to the XL and XL+ models? My Axe is a first gen Axe-Fx II, so I'm not sure if I have that functionality or not. Cool to have if so, not a big deal if not. I don't consider my current workflow to be restrictive at all, so I'm good...

How good is the clock in the Axe FX II?

I use the SPDIF output exclusively while tracking guitars/bass through the Axe-Fx. The Axe-Fx must be the master clock in this scenario, and it's always been solid and stable for me. No issues here. Having said that, when tracking vocals or anything else that isn't going direct, I switch over to...

    WARM Audio? (studio gear)

I've got the WA76 and the TB12. Both are stellar units. The Tone Beast is a great sounding preamp (API-ish) with quite a few ways to color up the sound if you desire, and the WA76 does what it's supposed to do. Sounds like an 1176 for FAR less money than buying the real McCoy. I've got it...

Very cool interview, my friend! Congratulations! You could try that, although I don't know if you could get the signal "cool" enough for the amp's input. You could potentially pick up quite a bit of noise along the way too, as you're going from a balanced output (interface) into an unbalanced input (amp). If I get a moment this week sometime...
  93. Jiffzillla

Sadly, I'm almost certain that the answer is no. The analog outputs of the Axe-Fx produce a signal that is line level. You're gonna need an additional piece of hardware to knock it back down to instrument level for going into the input of your 5150III. Something like this will do the trick...
