Wish Preset level VU meters visible from Axe-Edit main screen

Last weekend I spent quite some time playing around with some new presets and I kept wishig I had a permanent VU level meter accessible right from Axe Edit. Meters such as the gain reduction on the compressor or the fantastic recent addition of the Headroom meter at the amp block make life so...

Effect bypass independent from scene change

Thanks for your reply. But how exactly do I assign a Control Switch to an FC12 button? Also, where do you select the scene load state ?

Effect bypass independent from scene change

Hi guys. I've spent a good deal of time going through manuals, Wiki and old forum posts, but could not find the answer to what I am looking for. I thought I would open a new thread. I have my Axe setup in a way that all my band sounds live in a single preset. I use scenes to change between...

Buzz noise when connecting axe III to powerstage amp

For those of you who could be experiencing a similar issue, just wanted to let you guys know that the humbuster cable, seems to have solved the problem. I am still puzzled as to what could be the problem with a normal guitar cable, but well, at least it works now. Thanks guys for your help!

Buzz noise when connecting axe III to powerstage amp

Today I had time to try if using a guitar cable instead a XLR To TRS would work. Somehow it did not. Same noise as before. I am now using the Left jack from Output 1. I was pretty convinced that this would work for sure. It made all sense that it was the wrong cable that was causing the...

Buzz noise when connecting axe III to powerstage amp

I asked Seymour Duncan and they confirm that a) Indeed the input is unbalanced b) i should set the axeat -10db One question i was wondering about is: Is the humbuster cable wired the same way as a XLR to TS cable? in other words, if i use the XLR-TS from the output2 into the unbalanced...

Buzz noise when connecting axe III to powerstage amp

Yes. I will try output 3. I have ordered a humbuster cable to give it a try too.

Buzz noise when connecting axe III to powerstage amp

Indeed, Seymour Duncan does not provide a detailed manual, from what i am seeing online it seems that it is indeed unbalanced. would a XLR to TS work, or better use other output (3 or 4) with TS to TS (or even Humbuster) cable?

Buzz noise when connecting axe III to powerstage amp

Thanks for the tip! It makes sense. I am currently using output 1 in stereo to my audio interface, so I will just change this to output 2 so I can use the TS out of output 1. should i run it at 4 or -10 db?

Buzz noise when connecting axe III to powerstage amp

Ok. I recently got a Seymour Duncan Powerstage 170 to run my Axe Fx III through a 1x12 mesa cab for home practice. Thing is that I am getting an annoying buzz noise, similar to that when the guitar cable is disconnected from the guitar end. I go from the output 2L (XLR to TRS cable) into the...

Getting acoustic reinforcement at home with a cab

It’s been over three years since I happily joined the Fractal world with my first Axe Fx II XL. Today, i am even happier with the Axe Fx III/FC6 Combo. However, since I play home exclusively, and most of the time though headphones (since I cannot play at loud volumes, headphones help me get the...

Wish: Add VU Meter(s) to main Amp page in Axe-Edit

Indeed, this function would be incredibly useful. I had indeed suggested this addition sometime ago, and also created a quick mockup of what it could look like in Axe Edit III (see below). In this mockup, I added the 1L/1R and 2L/2R output VU meters at the top of the window, so that they can be...

Question about the Mark series graphic EQ modeling

Thanks so much for the confirmation!! I guess that a s-taper will be one in which, for example, 30% of travel will correspond to, say, 10% of output and 70% of travel does 90% of output? Does this mean that at the model will behave in a smoother way than the real amp at the begining up until...

Question about the Mark series graphic EQ modeling

Thanks guys for your replies. Being the nominal range of the real amp +12/-12dB, is there wny way to check if the range of the axe is also +-12dB? The axe’s scale goes from -10 to +10, but i would say those are not dB, and rather a numeric division of the scale.

Question about the Mark series graphic EQ modeling

Does anyone know if the sliders from the 5 control graphic eq of the Mesa Mark model (CII+ and CII++) have an identical range as in the real amp. In other words, for example, I put a slider on the Axe fx model at , say, +10 or -10, does that same slider on the real amp at max or min position...

    Is this normal?

Thanks for your replies, guys. Glad to see it is normal. It is only that being used to the gorgeous startup screen with the Axe logo, it looks a bit underwhelming now. I get that the added text showing the different boot up cycle stages will help troubleshooting startup issues, but I guess...

Thanks so much guys for implementing it! You truly are the best!

    Is this normal?

I have noticed that since my previous firmware update or so (3.01) my startup screen first shows some text loading before it goes to the AXE FX III logo. I wanted to wait and see if with a new update it would go away, but I just uploaded the version 3.02, and it is still there. Is this normal?

Implemented Add Gain Reduction Meter Bar to Gate/Expander Block

I was wondering if it would it be possible to add the gain reduction meter bar to the Gate/Expander block? In the gate from the IN block, there is a meter already, so I assume it should no be difficult to do the same there. I find this meter very helpful while adjusting gate settings, especially...

    Metallica live tone needed

As far as I know, Kirk used a mix of Mesa Recto and Randall before switching to Fractal. Not sure what modelling approach he particularly uses now in Fractal. Likely dual amp setup too, but unsure of models. Regarding pickups, as far as i am aware, Kirk uses active EMGs in most of his guitars...

    Metallica live tone needed

Indeed, unix-guy. You are right, that must be it. Since only two amp blocks are possible per preset and they use two already for heavy tones, in a scene change they would necessarily need to implement x/y at least in one of the amp blocks, which would lead to the sound gap. Regarding the heavy...

    Metallica live tone needed

By the way, I have always wondered why they keep running a separate Axe Fx for cleans and for heavy tones, to then use a GCX analog switcher to switch between them. In the video, Chad claims that it is for instant changing, but could not they do that also with scenes or channels? I may be...

    Metallica live tone needed

I agree that the IIC++ model can bring you fairly close to today’s Metallica live sound. However, Hetfield combines the CII++ with a Diezel VH4 to get that amazing signature sound he gets. He did before Metallica started using Axe Fx, and he does now too. I also absolutely love that tone and...

Wish Preset level VU meters visible from Axe-Edit main screen

Hadn´t seen that, James. Indeed, pretty much same request. I've just done a very quick and dirty recreation of what it could look like: - Added the 1L/1R and 2L/2R VU meters at top of window so they are always visible (had to move tuner and tap buttons away to make the space) - Added the...

Wish Preset level VU meters visible from Axe-Edit main screen

I use the VU meters of the AXE to adjust the overall level of every preset all the time. Having added them in the AXE III’s layout view is very useful now, but since the screen is reset to the home page with every preset switch, I end up having to manually go every time to the layout screen. I...

    Metallica and Axe-Fx III

After a break of two months, Metallica starts today the new leg of the european tour. I’d say they’ll be using the Axe III. Look forward to seeing videos of these shows, specially of the tuning room sessions, as in those you can often hear really well the guitars, sometimes even in isolation...
