Anyone ever have to relocate a TOM bridge?

There’s no shortage of folklore on the internet! I’m actually relieved to know that top wrapping is unnecessary. It’s kind of a pain in the ass to do compared to the standard method of stringing.

Anyone ever have to relocate a TOM bridge?

UDPDATE! Firstly, I want to thank everyone for their help and suggestions. Things are looking better for my Heritage H150. Here's what I did: 1) I got my new TOM bridge, which is a Graptech Resomax, the one with the metal saddles. It was easy to install. This time, I didn't top wrap the...

Anyone ever have to relocate a TOM bridge?

Thanks for your help! I’ll try to mess around with the setup some more this weekend. I don’t know why this guitar has been so hard to set up. My other 12 guitars give me no problems. Is it ok to message you if I have any questions? Thanks again!

Anyone ever have to relocate a TOM bridge?

Indeed! I just want to completely rule out the bridge before I drive several hours to have a tech work on the nut. I placed an order for a new bridge 3 weeks ago and I’m still waiting for it to get here. The $20 Gotoh bridge I had laying around isn’t that good and rattles like crazy.
  6. pharmd07

Anyone ever have to relocate a TOM bridge?

I am using the open string method. I’ll try intonating at the third/fifteenth fret once I get another new bridge on the guitar. Maybe I’ll eventually find a bridge that works better. I know the nut needs work. The headstock, while shaped differently from Gibson’s, still suffers from the same...

Anyone ever have to relocate a TOM bridge?

They do, but I wish they weren't so ugly. I am considering trying a Wilkinson locking TOM roller bridge like this one. It looks like it might have a lot of intonation range to it...

Anyone ever have to relocate a TOM bridge?

I don't have a very precise ruler long enough to measure this, but I used a tape measure (marked in 1/16") and tried to measure as close as I could down to 1/32". The treble side is 24.781", and the bass side is 25". If I'm doing the calculations correctly, the bass side might be a little too...

The saddles are already oriented so they can move all the way forward.
  10. pharmd07

Anyone ever have to relocate a TOM bridge?

I bought a new Heritage H150 over the summer. At first I thought all was well until I changed the strings. I had to top wrap the strings over the tailpiece because they were hitting the TOM bridge behind the saddles. That’s no big deal. The problems started when tried to intonate the bridge...

    A/B box recommendations?

Yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s defective. It sucks not having a local music store. I have to buy everything online, and trying gear and returning things is such a pain in the ass.
  12. pharmd07

    A/B box recommendations?

Yup. Tried all the switches, tried different cables, tried with a power supply and without, tried not plugging in my guitar, still squealing. It’s very microphonic.
  13. pharmd07

    A/B box recommendations?

I tried the Bigshot ABY. No luck. It introduced a massive amount of squeal, much louder than the guitar signal. Definitely not usable. Bummer.

Hanging a couple of guitars on the wall… Suggestions requested

It’s much easier to use a case humidifier than it is to humidify a whole room. Room humidifiers are notorious for getting moldy. You can change the water several times a day, clean it out with a bleach or vinegar solution, use silver based disinfectant products, etc, and the mold will win.
  15. pharmd07

Hanging a couple of guitars on the wall… Suggestions requested

Yeah, I tried to fight the humidity battle for years. I had a humidifier running constantly in my music room. Had to thoroughly clean it out daily to keep mold buildup in check. It didn’t matter what cleaning or disinfectant product I used, the mold came back in 24-48 hours. It was just too much...

    A/B box recommendations?

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I’m hoping to use the A/B box to switch between a real amp and an AxeFx amp model so I can tweak the model to sound like the real amp. I could use tone match, but I think it would be a good ear training exercise to try to get as close as I can manually.

I’ve often wondered if my CYP1A2 is over active as everyone in my family can consume large amounts of caffeine with minimal effect. It must be something I inherited from my dad. One of my former residents had a CYP1A2 deficiency. She could drink half a can of Coke and be wired. I’m kind of...

    The Boys

The storyline in The Boys follows Nazis. A main character is a super who is a Nazi who never ages. Watch the show before commenting any further on the show’s political leanings, please.
  32. pharmd07

    The Boys

Keep in mind that the show is based on the comic, which started in 2006. This was obviously before the Trump and Obama eras. Just keep that in mind when trying to criticize The Boys for its possible political leanings.
  33. pharmd07

    The Boys

Saying The Boys is “political” is analogous the saying Saving Private Ryan (or Band of Brothers, etc) is political because there are Nazis in the storyline. Doesn’t make any sense to label these stories as such.
  34. pharmd07

    The Boys

I love The Boys. It can be f@cked up at times, however I feel like it’s a realistic representation of how super heroes would actually behave. Absolute power corrupts absolutely, as they say. There’s no way in hell super heroes would be do-gooders like they are in the Marvel movies.

Pickups for a Les Paul style / sound

I had Classic 57s in my Les Paul. In the bridge position they were fantastic. However the neck position was muddy. That’s the extent of my Gibson pickup experience.

Pickups for a Les Paul style / sound

I have Lindy Fralin Pure PAFs in my Les Paul. They have amazing clarity and the neck pickup has a nice defined low end. Do you use your volume knob a lot when playing? If so, I also highly recommend using 50s wiring for your controls. Your tone won’t turn to mush when you roll down the volume.

For all the Les Paul folks out there

Some capos seem to have too much tension, and they make the strings go out of tune. It’s not just a Les Paul thing. Try this capo, which has adjustable tension. It has worked well for me: D’Addario NS Tri-Action Capo, Black – For 6-String Electric and Acoustic Guitars – Micrometer Tension...

For all the Les Paul folks out there

It’s not an issue for all Les Pauls. From my experience, it all depends on how well the nut was cut. I’ve come to the conclusion that the nut is one of the most critical and important parts of a guitar.
  58. pharmd07

    Covid empties guitar stocks?

Even the higher end guitars are hard to find. Sweetwater has been out of stock of early all Core model PRS guitars for a while. I’ve been considering a McCarty 594 but they’re hard to find. Alternatively I was considering a Pete Thorn signature Suhr, also very scarce.
  62. pharmd07

For all the Les Paul folks out there

Maybe? I’m not sure. If it does, the Plek machine did a great job on my Les Paul’s frets, but a sh*t job on the nut. Fortunately it was easily fixed for a very reasonable price.
  63. pharmd07

For all the Les Paul folks out there

The frets on my 2019 Les Paul Classic are great, so I credit the Plek machine for that. The only issue I had was with the poorly cut nut, which resulted in unstable tuning and uneven string height. My luthier fixed all that. I did end up removing the circuit board and 57 classic pickups. I...
  64. pharmd07

For all the Les Paul folks out there

Amen to that. I just bought a Heritage H150. Its setup was FAR superior to my Les Paul. The only thing I did to the H150 was install strap locks and locking tuners, which I do on all my guitars. The H150 is a very nice guitar.
  65. pharmd07

For all the Les Paul folks out there

I took my Les Paul to my luthier and he worked on the nut slots. It now stays in tune very well. Even the G string. I had bought a String Butler in case the luthier couldn’t fix the nut. But he did, so I never ended up installing the String Butler.

For me, long hair has been easier to take care of than short hair. Mine is down to my collar bones. When my hair was short, I always had cowlicks that could never be solved with any hair product. The back of my head looked like Alfalfa. Long hair has been easier for me overall.

    Cliff's Reviews: Ad Astra

I liked Ad Astra for how it played the utterly broken relationship between father and son, and how their obsessions have ruined their relationships with their families. Why they chose to tell that story over a terribly unrealistic sci-fi plot is beyond me. It could have been done much better.

Fishman Fluence Single Coil set - Thoughts?

I used to get long charges on the Fluence pickups, but they diminished VERY quickly with each charge. But the third or fourth charge the battery would last 2 hours or so. Not sure if it was the pickups or the rechargeable battery that was the problem.

Fishman Fluence Single Coil set - Thoughts?

I used to have a set on my Carvin Bolt (Strat copy). They sounded great but the battery life was so short they were unusable. I got maybe 2 hours before having to recharge the battery. So I removed them and replaced them with Mojotone pickups.
