    Jeff Beck on fretless bass

This is my hommage to my number one guitar hero Jeff Beck. When I heard about his passing I had to do something. I wanted to emulate every nuance of Jeff's playing on 'Cause We've Ended As Lovers' in detail on my fretless 6-string bass. The solo (at 2:42) is my own interpretation. I couldn't...

Tips for filling out tones in a rock trio?

That’s why I love to play in trios when I play bass. I need that space to be able to do my thing. I hate to play in bands with two guitars. Sometimes I even prefer to have no guitar at all....😀 Especially when you have a rock player with too much lows in his sound.

Tips for filling out tones in a rock trio?

Adjust your presets during rehearsals with Axe Edit. Then save the preset. What sounds good at home doesn't always translate well to a band situation.

    Wish Amp+cab block

Excellent post! The wish makes sense especially for combos. It can be a real time saver. That doesn’t mean that you can’t change the IR. Just like you can change the speakers or cab of a real amp when you don’t like the sound of the stock or matching cab.

Thanks for the comments. I also had to think about that one. It is not an arpeggiator. It was done with cross string tapping. I think I also run through an octave up pitch shifter, but not totally sure about that anymore. And yes I really like Belew, Fripp, Trey Gunn and everything Crimson...

Upgrade to Axe III from FM3?

Since most (studio) players do the editing with Axe Edit this is no issue. You can also put the FM3 on your desk. To the OP: you had both units once so you should know already what works the best for you I think? If you are not using the extra stuff of the Axe fx III why not just stick to the FM3?
  23. Bodde

Maybe only in the studio? Maybe he changed his gear? I don’t know...
  24. Bodde

Let’s talk bass fuzz—esp getting brassmaster like tones

To me an amp block is different than a fuzz algo or pedal. Also you have to go through a lot of amps to find the sound you want plus all the parameters you have to dial in. Too much variables (for me anyway).
  25. Bodde

Let’s talk bass fuzz—esp getting brassmaster like tones

That seems like a very cumbersome way to get a fuzz sound. What would be a gated high gain amp? Or do you mean putting a gate in front of a high gain amp?

  27. Bodde

Let’s talk bass fuzz—esp getting brassmaster like tones

That’s a nice dirty sound. Pretty extreme. Not sure how to get that out of the Axe fx. Fuzzes on multi fx are always a bit a pain to recreate.

    FM9 Turbo Pitch Block

Ok didn’t know the US prices and didn’t know the FC6 was that much. In that case you better buy the FM9 or keep the FM3 and buy some cheaper Boss switches. In Europe we pay 2399 euro for the FM9 which is too much (for me anyway). Good luck with your decision!

plugins that sound as good as AxeFX III?

I think for guitar amp modelling there is no VST that matches the Axe fx. But for effects there are lots of great individual plug-ins that equal the Axe fx. But not an all in one VST.
  34. Bodde

Drum VSTs - how do you program your MIdI??

I use NI Studio Drummer. I like it. Very easy to use and sounds really good.
  35. Bodde

plugins that sound as good as AxeFX III?

Not sure about guitar but for bass I use the Brainworx Ampeg B-15N plug-in which I actually prefer over the Axe fx II bass models.
  36. Bodde

    Axe-Fx 2 still worth grabbing?

Did you already start an own patch from scratch? Just load and amp and camp block only and see if the sound you hear is still there. But first do an amp and cab reset in Axe edit in the patch you are creating.
  37. Bodde

    Axe-Fx 2 still worth grabbing?

Yes please share the chorus settings here if you will.
  38. Bodde

    Struggling with Bass presets...

Have you tried the Tube Pre model without a cab model? For fusion you need a clean, not boomy sound. All the bass cab models sound too boomy/rock based for me. Same goes for the Axe fx bass amp models, besides the FAS bass model. I would love to have more bass Amp/cab models for modern...

  44. Bodde

    Talk me off the ledge

I am with you but the less carrying argument is not always the case. An Axe fx III plus flightcase plus FC12 plus case and maybe an FRFR speaker is just as much carrying as say a combo with a pedal board. If you compare it to big Marshall stacks you are correct. I would even argue that a combo...
  45. Bodde

    Talk me off the ledge

I don’t agree. It’s easier for a soundman because there is no noise on stage from the amps but it doesn’t always sound better for the audience. For example I think Metallica sounded better with real amps than they do now with modelers. To the OP: let us know what caused the problems with the 4...

    So I bought a Boss GT1000Core

I love the idea of a dedicated synth guitar but it is a shame that the Boss guitar doesn't have midi and only six presets on the guitar itself. If I am right you can only use Boss synth sounds. 54. Bodde

    So I bought a Boss GT1000Core

That would be a good idea. I like that aspect better than the functionallity of the ABCD knobs of my Axe fx II (never became friends with those somehow). Of the course the Axe fx excels in other stuff but for live on the fly adjustments and editing at rehearsals the Boss works better (at least...

    Announcing FM9 Turbo

I don’t want to be negative but I think 10% is not enough for people who already have the FM9 to upgrade. For people on the waiting list this is good news though. Is the TURBO more extra expansive than the standard? I was hoping for an added pitch shifter block and larger size preset names.

I maybe want to buy an extra modeller/multi fx. I have an Axe fx II and I am waiting for an FM9. But I am just on the G66 waiting list for one month or so. So this probably will take a year waiting or so (?). I don't want to lug my Axe fx II and midi controller around and I want a simpler setup...

    IV anywhere on the horizon?

That's what most people who had the Axe fx II and now have the III said about the II also. I am sure sure when the IV is there many people will sell their III and say the IV is better and it can't get better than that. Then the V comes.....
  77. Bodde

    IV anywhere on the horizon?

So simply setting gain, master, low, high and of amp 1 globally to the physical knobs on the unit is not possible? That would be a very simple and practical solution to having amp style on board control. That would be most useful.
  78. Bodde

    IV anywhere on the horizon?

Is it possible to set the physical knobs of the Axe fx III or FM9 globally to the most common parameters of an amp: gain, master, low, mid and high? That would really help in making quick on the fly adjustments.
  79. Bodde

    Axe Fx and Keys

It works great for keys. But is probably overkill for most key players, since they don’t really need amp modelling and many synths already have build in effects.

Can you turn of the tweeter of your cab/monitor? Just to check if it solves the problem. Also try reducing the gain. Hope that helps....

Yes I agree. It’s hard to get the organic feel of a real fuzz pedal out of the Axe fx.
  98. Bodde

Newbie to Fractal - Buy used FXIII MKII or new FM9?

If you only use it for recording you don’t really need an FC-12 I guess. Just get two cheap expression pedals and hook it to the Axe fx III itself. That saves you a lot of money. If you don’t need two amp blocks you can also buy a used FM3. I guess you can find one easily with the FM9 on the market.
