    I/O Audio settings not saving?

Battery should last about 10 years. Dying in the middle of a performance shouldn’t be an issue because it’s used for maintaining the CMOS memory. That will be okay while the unit is powered on.

    I/O Audio settings not saving?

You take all the screws on the top cover out, remove the top cover, and the battery pad with clip are right smack in the middle of the main board. Take old battery out. Or don't if it isn't there. :D. Put new battery in. Simple. CR2032 button type.

    I/O Audio settings not saving?

Support has already reached out to me. The individual responsible has apologized, even though not necessary. I can truly say that even with this exceptionally minor bump in the road which is the absolute least of my problems right now, support is excellent. Carry on, nothing to see, except if...

    I/O Audio settings not saving?

No changes that I make in the Audio tab under the I/O menu are saving. On startup of the unit, everything reverts back to factory defaults. Anyone else? I've opened a ticket, but maybe others know the problem.

Changing Reverb quality not affecting CPU?

That is my recollection as well. And on the FM3, changing quality definitely affected the CPU utilization. That was the whole point of adding Economy mode. This is good news, actually. I can run it in highest all the time.

    Effects loop -3.7dB difference

It’s still an issue with the latest beta for me.
  25. Karl Houseknecht

    Effects loop -3.7dB difference

So it’s actually 3.7db difference between loop bypassed and engaged, even with a simple straight through routing, and bypassing input2 to bypass the loop. For now, the solution will be to add 1.85db to the input2 level (because stereo), but this is still not right. I’ll see what support says...

Need your opinion: Austin Buddy vs Cooper Carter?

Cooper’s class. Learn the unit. I’ve never had success with someone else’s settings. I wasn’t a fan of Cooper’s tones in his class either, but I learned lots of cool tricks on the unit to make mine easier. Class is worth the price of admission.

    Best Power Amp for Modelers

Agree with sixtystring above. Any neutral poweramp should work. I have the PowerStage 200 for an ultra lightweight solution with a 112, although it will drive a 412 too. And I have a Matrix for my stereo 412 cab. Both sound and feel great.

Interesting. For me, the Mark IV compares very favorably to the actual amp. I had my Mark V in IV mode running through the Suhr Reactive Load IR and dialed in the Helix model to sound identical, which wasn't difficult because I used literally the same knob and EQ slider positions. It made me...

Temple Audio Amp Mod - an alternative to the SD Power Stage 170?

I'm a fan of the PowerStage 200. At 16 ohms, it's a perfect match with my Friedman 112 cab. It does okay driving a 412 too, but I have a Matrix GT1000 for that. I think the more important question is 75 watts at what resistance? 8 ohm? Half that at 16, I'd think. Would it even be loud enough?

  42. Karl Houseknecht

If you play metal don’t buy the Helix

The point I take issue with is your story about the bodybuilder. Reading it, it implies that you are attacking a member for perhaps not being an actual or good guitar player. That part is against forum rules.
  43. Karl Houseknecht

If you play metal don’t buy the Helix

Condescension is not a color you wear particularly well. Best avoid it. I find these statements a little insulting, and probably against the terms of use of the forum. Attacks against the player are not allowed. It's rule number one.
  44. Karl Houseknecht

If you play metal don’t buy the Helix

LOL! Well, to be fair, you're comparing patches created by someone else to patches you created for your system, right? I do think there are things Fractal gear does better, but when you put one in the loop of the other and dial in the amps using the same IR, A/Bing the two, the differences...

If you play metal don’t buy the Helix

The Helix is a capable device. It's hard to imagine any tone it can't get. It's not so different from the FM3, tone wise, and it can get very similar results. Don't get me wrong, I use the FM3 too. It's also a capable device.

    Ares is over ...

Those are "cab sims", and you can export IRs from them based upon your cab and mic selections/positions. Are they IRs under the hood?
  48. Karl Houseknecht

    Ares is over ...

I still don't get it. IRs are captured by mics. So you'd have a mic model over top of a real mic?
  49. Karl Houseknecht

    Ares is over ...

Fractal moved away from mic modeling being included in the cab block. It was an intentional move. I'd be surprised if it was re-included in the product.

    FM3 Firmware Release Version 1.04

It's not only the same type of delay. It's the delay or amp from the previously viewed preset in Edit. There's some weird caching thing going on. If you go to the unit UI and edit the block in question, Edit will refresh with the correct info. In addition to blocks, switch assignment is all...

  67. Karl Houseknecht

    FM3 Firmware Release Version 1.04

Yeah, there's something wrong with this firmware for sure. Or Edit. Or both. I dialed in something at home that sounded great, made a tweak to a footswitch assignment, and went to rehearsal. The gain level when I powered on was double what I had at home. Something in Edit or the firmware...

Yep, but the actual model details seem to indicate that description isn't quite accurate.
  73. Karl Houseknecht

FAS Class-A is...Even Better than the Real Thing

Yeah, that's what the docs say. Doesn't feel particularly Fendery to me though. The model defaults to EL84/6BQ5 power tubes. So are the docs wrong?
  74. Karl Houseknecht

FAS Class-A is...Even Better than the Real Thing

I'm finding that too. On the FAS Class A, the gain level doesn't really seem to mush out the amp as you turn it up. Takes boost, overdrive, and distortion pedals really well. I could easily use this as my only amp model in my P&W playing. The cleans are really nice too.
  75. Karl Houseknecht

FAS Class-A is...Even Better than the Real Thing

I hadn't tried this model before today. It may be my new favorite. I like it better than the AC30 already. It seems like it has all the good and none of the bad of the AC30TB.

Yes, I often will use all three for different things. The one before the amp is for that crazy worship delay sound where it gets all smeary and distorted. It's usually a Memory Man. The one after the amp in parallel is stereo and either adding a touch of echo or some dotted eighth rhythmic...

Super wobbly USB type B slot

Well, you said that only one user ever reported a loose USB jack on the AX8 in four years, therefore it wasn't a thing. I'm saying that more than one user did, and it was a thing. :)
  81. Karl Houseknecht

    CPU Issues

Nimbostratus or Cirrocumulus for the "cloud" types. Plate, chamber, or room types for more normal spaces. I'm not finding that reducing the echo density has any effect on CPU utilization, unless it doesn't affect those types.
  82. Karl Houseknecht

    CPU Issues

My basic patch looks like below and clocks in right around 80% CPU. I would absolutely LOVE to also include a Pitch block in this, but it isn't possible. It's either the Plex Delay or the Pitch block. I can kinda compromise by removing the Plex Delay and making one of my other delays do it's...

Have you tried creating a new preset and having different amps on each amp channel?
  88. Karl Houseknecht

    FM3 Firmware Release 1.04 Public Beta 8

I don't see it happening with presets I made from scratch either. I take it back. It's happening for me now. I'm going to roll back to 1.03. As much as I wanted amp parity with the III, I'm going to make do without.

  91. Karl Houseknecht

    CPU Issues

    "Major". It really isn't.
  93. Karl Houseknecht

    CPU Issues

Yeah, I don't think the CPU utilization is actually coming down in the new firmware. They're just going to redo the factory presets. In the same way, you're probably going to have to redo your own presets to bring them in under the limit. Kinda sucks.

So I tried an Ibanez guitar.....

I've felt the same way. My first Ibanez was a 1985 RG440 with the duck bill head stock. Japanese made. I had that thing for close to 20 years. Great neck, played great, good tone, solid tuning. Tried many of the newer ones and just couldn't bond with them. Most were a pain to set up...

    FM3 Firmware Release 1.04 Public Beta 7

I don't think the CPU is any more or less powerful than the AX8, and that unit works fine. I haven't really run into a limitation on the FM3 that isn't addressable by some thoughtful preset planning, again, just like the AX8. And my patches for P&W can have some effects heavy configurations...
