    Axe-Fx III phasing issues?

Not a faulty device. Phasing issues occur mostly when a stereo signal is summed to mono. Possible causes: routing in the preset Output Mode settings in the I/O menu physical connecting of outputs to amplifier/mixer

Trouble connecting FX3 to the speaker cab of my HRD3

You absolutely should NOT connect a speaker directly to the Axe-Fx!! The Axe-Fx does not contain an amplifier that can drive the speaker(s). So you need a powered speaker like an active monitor, or an external amp to drive the speaker.

The advice to set the output level knob at a certain position applies mainly to running the processor into a DAW. When connecting the processor to an amplifier or mixer, you can the output to any position, as long as it doesn’t clip the input of the downstream device.

    Controlling Volume block using MFC-101

Look in the manual for the Axe-Fx II and you’ll find a list of MIDI CC commands. Volume defaults to CC 16. However, the Axe-Fx III doesn’t use pre-configured CCs anymore. You can choose whatever CC you want in MIDI/Remote > Other, but don’t forget to set the MFC to the same CC.

No, just with tube-based "neutral" power amps. I know of only one: the Fryette. With other tube-based power amps, you just disable Power Amp Modeling entirely. It's all explained here: http://wiki.fractalaudio.com/axefx2/index.php?title=Connections_and_levels#Power_amp_and_guitar_speaker

    Fryette Powerstation 2 Users

Yes, that's the way. It works fine, and you'll notice that the amp's bass fresponse will get tighter and that there's less feedback in the highs. The drawback is that zero LF/HF doesn't work well if that same Amp block also send a "direct" signal to FRFR monitors of FOH. In other words: de PS...

    Controlling Volume block using MFC-101

I think you're confusing the External Control Init Values with the MIDI CC values of the External Controllers. MIDI can be a complex topic. Obviously you're struggling. You would be far better off with using an FC-6 or FC-12 controller.

Ah, yes, it works that way with external switches and the MFC. A latching switch needs to resync after preset switching. No way around it, alas. Yes, that's interesting. Ping-Pong starts at the Left side. You see in the Mixer that it's hard-panned to the right (3rd row). So indeed you'd actually hear the second repeat, not the first one. Unless Michael has the outputs of the device reversed. ;)
