Should I get an FM9?

Hey forum folks,

I have an Axe FX III and I love it! It lives in a rack case and I gig it regularly. I want something more portable that I can potentially put in my backpack and fly with or just grab and go if needed. The FM3 just doesn't seem to have all the features I want or else I'd go that route for something smaller (I use 2 amp blocks often). I wish there was an FM6 lol. Tell me what I should do here...

The FM9 is fantastic unit. It would fit in a carry on suitcase on airplane I would think. Not really a backpack size unit to stick under seat though IMO.
The FM3 would be great if you could trim back your heavy duty presets. I had one and it was great, but I do not use complex presets.
The AM4 would present the same limitations you mention I think if you need major CPU flexibility but I am not real familiar with it.

Another option would be to capture the AXE FX 3 presets you use on gigs to a Nano Cortex. They look like a good value.
I fooled around with a Quad Cortex doing Axe FX 3 captures and the technology worked really well.

Yeah backpack and fm9 are two different sizes.

I’d start at trying to get 2-amp presets to single amps, and then see if the am4 would work.

Sounds like keep using the axe3 for now.

At first i though the fm3 wouldn't cut it with it's dsp limitations but the moment i started using simple and effective presets my live tone was way better. Also the ability to change presets without any lag is a gamechanger and eliminates dps problems if you use that feature.

I have my FM9 in a pelican case with 3 cables and an expression pedal. It meets carry-on luggage parameters but too big for a back pack.

I gigged a few years with an axe fx III in a rack case + fc12 in another case… eventually built a temple board with an FM9 and it was soooo much easier. Tone didn’t suffer any but being able to load in with one trip was amazing. Highly recommend!

FM9T is the ultimate solution which can be used in the studio or home through monitors, FRFR, or tube amps, and portable and powerful enough for live shows.

Honestly, I think for its price and value it is the best of the Fractal lineup atm.

For playing U2 and my original ambient music I rely on my FM9T.
