FM9 IEM's and routing scenario below. What betterments, if any....

FOH stereo aux sends would go into FM9's input 2's L-R 1/4 ts inserts. FM9's output 2 is going into Mipro Mi-58 via xlrs. Then I setup a per preset performance page that allow me to control row 2 and row 3 on separate knobs. This allows me to turn up my guitar in FM9 independent of altering FOH, while also having independent band FOH volume control. Better way than this? Use a mixer block, if so why? Thoughts and ideas greatly appreciated.

Probably not better, but here's what I've been doing: band mix from house in to In 3 (mono), volume block to set level, GEQ if I need it. I use Out 1 for my monitor, and just plug in to the headphone jack.

Honestly, this was a better setup when I was using the Axe FX III live, because the monitor blocks were global and I could set them once and forget it, but it still works alright.

That's basically what I do. The only difference is that I have PEQ blocks to do the correction I like for my IEMs.

On a side note. I use the Scene levels within output 2 to reduce my lead sounds for in ears. FOH gets boost and I shave off 1 db for ears. That way I am not blasted but FOH is more goosed.

I settled on this.
in 1 guitar out 1 FOH
in 2 Keys out FOH
in 3 FOH mix out 3 IEM (Behringer P2)
For levels, FOH mix is output 3 knob, vol pedal for keys, and guitar, and performance controls are output 3 EQ

I use something similar. Output 1 feeds the phones jack on the FM9, so I use Output 1 for my IEM system. I have a PEQ 1 block between the end of the signal chain and Output 1 to adjust the EQ a bit to make the IEMs sound a bit more pleasing to my ears.

Separately, I also have Input 3 running DIRECTLY to Output 1 which bypasses the aforementioned PEQ block. Input 3 takes a mono feed from our FOH mixer and as it runs to Output 1 it also feeds the phones output.

Output 2 I run directly to the FOH mixer in stereo. I have a separate PEQ 2 block between the end of the signal chain and Output 2 to account for the PA speakers we are using that night. That PEQ block does not affect the signal to the IEMs. I tune all my presets to sound good with my CLR Atomic FRFR at gigging volume, but many PA speakers have boosts above 3k that I need to tame with my PEQ block and I've saved a number of PEQ presets to work with different PA speakers we may use. This also allows our keyboardist, who also monitors the board, to avoid having to do any dramatic EQ adjustments to the guitar feed into the FOH mixer. If we had a dedicated sound person, I wouldn't be as worried.

I’ve found this thread quite interesting. I’m going to playing my first gig with my fm9 at the end of the month and also will be trying IEM at a gig for the first time also.

I didn’t even think of taking the desk feed into the Fm9 which would give flexibility for getting a nice balance and even having my own guitar sounding the way I imagine.

I’m going to try some of these techniques. This whole Fractal world just keeps getting more and more fun and I haven’t even scraped the surface yet!!

Truly fun to keep learning and finding new things to try on Fractal stuff. 18 years later and I am still wowed constantly.

I always ran a dedicated unit for IEM - like a Behringer P1 or P2. This kept IEM systems separate from the FM9. However, I never ever thought about using the FM9 for this. The only negative I could see about using the FM9 for IEM is having to update many presets to account for any of this (adding input blocks) and losing some I/O and having the unit be less flexible. Whereas with a dedicated unit, you don't have to bother...

Depends if using a lot of patches. I use only a few and utilize scenes
