    Disappointed In FC Availability

I couldn't swing both the Axe Fx III and the controller in one go so I picked up a used Line 6 HD500 to use as a controller. Works great, including scenes and it has a built-in expression pedal. Cost me $100 and it will get me by just fine until I can spring for the FC12.

    Favorite foot switch setup

ive got a friend who wants me to help him setup his AX8. He wants to have a few of the tones of his hero’s that he can easily access, but isn’t the most tech fluent guy. As I’m thinking through what he’s asking for I want to give him as much usability as I can so I was wondering... What’s you...

    Sigh... gig failure.

It sounds like you've got a pretty complicated setup, but maybe not complicated enough. If I were looking to automate preset changes I'd want to automate everything. Automate preset and scene changes thru Ableton (I'm assuming this is possible, I've never used it) and ditch the MFC. You can...

    Piezo/Electric new challenge

The Fishman Aura boxes sound really great. You can get a really natural acoustic tone out of them using a piezo equipped solid body guitar.

    Number of drive pedals... Satisfactory?

Keep in mind too that a lot of the drives on the market are built to emulate the way a certain amp sounds, a Plexi, Dumble, etc. The amps that these pedals try to emulate are in there. Instead of taking a bunch of pedals to try and sound like 5 or 6 different amps you have 200+ virtual amps...

    Help/Issues/Frustrated

You may want to look at using X/Y and scene modifiers if you aren't already. Rather than using 2 drive blocks you can use 2 different X/Y settings on one block and use scene modifiers on the drive and amp blocks to vary gain. It may save you enough CPU to get the verbs you want. Also, I know...

Scenes in Ax8 versus Axe II

I don't want to claim that I really actually know what's going on inside the magic box, but it seems to me that two things are true. First, that every effect's algorithm is running in it's current state regardless of bypass mode, and second, that an X/Y state change requires that block to load...

    Torn between Ax8 and Helix

I've heard people from both camps that are super happy with what they have and, though I haven't tried the Helix, I'm sure I'd be pretty pleased with it if I didn't have anything Fractal to compare it to. For me Fractal is king for one reason: Service. I've owned an original POD, A Pod XT Live...

    AX8 Wishes

I would love having longer preset names. I moved from an XL to the AX8 and I play at church. What I was doing on my XL was creating a preset for each song we did. Whenever we did a new one I'd create a preset for it and name it the name of the song and the month and year I made the preset...

    Setting up footswitches?

I only got mine yesterday, but so far I've got switches 1-4 setup for scenes 1-4 (global) and 5-8 for individual effects. That's kinda the way I was using my XL too. I would set up a preset per song and scenes 1-4 would be clean thru lead tones for that song. We play to a click so setting...

    Scene Control Modifiers

    Scene Control Modifiers

I just got my AX8 today and, other than hitting the CPU ceiling a little quicker than I'd hoped I'm loving it. I'm having a hard time understanding the Scene Control modifiers though. The manual is a bit vague on how they work. What I had been doing with my XL was using two instances of two...

    USB/Mac problem, too much power

Yeah, basically what it was doing was the sort of thing that trips breakers in your house. A circuit needs resistance and there was none with those pins soldered together. It's nice that your computer recognized the problem it didn't fry your USB port on the computer. I wonder if that would...

    USB/Mac problem, too much power

Shorting power to ground at the unit will cause a short circuit at your computer and draw unrestricted power from the computer. If the AX8 doesn't draw power from the computer then perhaps those pins don't connect to anything in the unit, but they should not be soldered together. You could try...

    USB/Mac problem, too much power

I've had issues with my Axe and long USB cables, not that issue, but spotty connection. If your cables are longer than a meter you may want to try a shorter cable. After hearing about the connections though that sounds like the culprit. USB should have 4 individual pins (2 for power and 2 for...
