CROWN XLS series amps for the Axe FX

Crown XLS are not so hot - lot of bass guys I know have had issues. I'd avoid the XLS line altogether.

How much does a power amp affect the tone of the axe fx ? And in what way?

Get a flat PA style power amp (not Matrix) and learn to tweak the advanced parameters - everything you need is in the Axe. Decent PA power amps will all sound the same, the main variable will be the input sensitivity which will affect how much signal you need to send it to fully drive it, but...

Back to a tube power amp / review about real speakers and power amps with the Axe II

+1 It's just a matter of knowing how do dial in the right combination of advanced parameters. Once you do that, a good flat PA style power amp (not Matrix) can take you way beyond what you can do with conventional gear IME. I can understand how some folks might have difficulty dialing it in...

About Matching Your Cabinet's Resonant Frequency

I measured the impedance curve of my Mesa Recto 2x12 loaded with 16 ohm series wired EV12L's a while back and the peak was right at 100 Hz. I'll see if I can dig up the curve and post it if anyone is interested.

I play guitar and bass. Buy a quality PA amp - you can get great deals on used stuff. If you don't mind the weight, Crest CA series amps are top notch. I have a QSC PLX which I highly recommend. Carvin also represents a very good value. I would stay away from Behringer and the Peavy IPR...

Recto sound, tweaking!

Love the V10 SW overall, but the Recto is the one model I still can't get dialed in. I've owned an original 2 CH rackmount Recto, and it's low end wasn't anywhere near as loose/sloppy as the current model, and I don't recall the newer 3 CH versions I've played being this way either - maybe they...

Loving the axe 2 for bass guitar

Yeah, a lot of the bass players on TalkBass are interested in the Kemper; I continue to wave the Fractal flag, but it's hard to justify with 1 bass amp in the whole mix. A Hiwatt 400, Trace V8, Sadowsky SA200, B15, and a few SS models would seal the deal for a lot of folks.

Guitar and Bass clip through my custom cabs

I finally got around to shooting another video of my custom cabs with bass guitar, as well as clean and hi gain guitar. I find it pretty easy to get a good clean guitar sound through a bass or PA cab, but overdrive and hi-gain is the real differentiator - it will bring out any deficiencies...
