Fender Strat single coil (bridge) favorites

Here's a rather nerdy look at the tonal effects of pickup height: https://guitarnuts2.proboards.com/thread/7998/tonal-effect-pickup-height It's more complicated than it seems at first, due to harmonics etc. Also note that if you're running a humbucker with a cover (or simply a hot and dark...

The tone (not just the volume) of any pickup changes with height. Closer will give you more highs and lows compared to lower. An easy experiment is to move a pickup as far away from the strings as you can get. The sparkly highs and some of the lows will be attenuated. Record A/B clips with a...

I like Mission myself. Currently use the Aero.

What is the height of your strings on the 12th fret ?

That's quite a big difference between high and low. 0.047-0.125. You sure you not meant 1/16? That would give you 0.047-0.063. For reference, my dread is setup for bluegrass. So quite high action, almost as high as they come. Even it doesn't have 1/8 at the last fret.

1/4 of an inch? Who are you, the hulk?

What is the height of your strings on the 12th fret ?

I measure everything in thousands of an inch. So 0.080-0.100 on acoustic and 0.055-0.070 on my Music Mans. I also like straight necks without a lot of relief. About 0.005 at the 7th fret, holding down the string on the 1st and where the neck meets the body.

Actually I haven't. I tend to go for polyester film caps. I have tried that value before though. What's so different about the paper book caps?

Fender Strat single coil (bridge) favorites

Personal taste. I don't like 100nf at all. For a single tone control I prefer something around 10nf. If I had a dedicated tone control for a certain pickup like on a strat, I would probably go with the Lindy Fralin fat cap value (1.5nf). It works nicely for fattening up a single coil in the...

I would personally just keep the guitar with 3 vintage sounding singles, but put in a superswitch. Wire the second tone control so it just works in position 5 (bridge only). That way, you can smooth out the bridge and not sacrifice the 4 position quack. Also, try some different cap values until...

Lexicon PCM70: Pan & Circular Delays

I already have one I really like (YA Bogner). The problem is I can't find any factory IRs I think sound close enough.

    Still working on IRs!

Lexicon PCM70: Pan & Circular Delays

Thanks man! I think the difference might be that the PCM81 is more accurate, so all those volume differences between L/C/R and slightly offset panning might not be there on a PCM81. It seems like one these things that they probably fixed. But at the same time, a bit of the character from way...

How long did it take you to learn Scuttle buttin'?

Well, he didn't use 13s. That's a myth that's been debunked time and again. He used 11s, but switched out both e strings to the ones from a set 13. But he would also frequently start with lower gauges at the beginning of a tour, and then work his way up to "his" gauges. And he would often go...

How long did it take you to learn Scuttle buttin'?

What particular part are you thinking about? There's a lot of bends, pull offs and a slide thrown in. Basically, anything that doesn't have to be picked, is executed by the left hand.
