Vivian Campbell Preset

I would love to see his Fractal presets. He used to endorse Randall in the DIO days and later a Matchless endorsement that is still on their site.

Vivan, Phil and Sav are all still on the AxeFXIII's. Signal flow for Vivan is Shure Axient AD4Q wireless - RJM Music IS-84 input switcher - AxeFXIII - digital out to Monitors and FOH and an analog pre effects signal from Output 2 for those who do not wish to hear the effects in their ear mix. The AxeFXIII and IS-84 are controlled via MIDI by an RJM Music Mastermind GT/22.

Viv, being a more "back in the pocket" style player, typically has a darker tone and is more delay heavy as compared to Phil. A ying versus yang sort of tonal environment. If you take a JMPre-1 OD1 in the Amp block and create a tone that is a bit darker than the presets available here on the forum from Phil, and add a Quad Tap Delay with a slight chorus and flange (think Rockman-ish), you have a great start.

Hey Scott!

Couldn't get anyone better to answer this question!

What chorus is being used on Vivian’s clean tones?

'The' Scotty A - I didn't realise at first.. I thought wow, this guy sounds like he's literally just stood in front of Viv's rig. And then I realised he has :D

I've heard Mr Appleton introduced Def Leppard to FAS
Just out of interest when did they first start using fractal.. that was Axe II for just effects right? I did really like the tones from the real JMP1s but I have been impressed with the latest tones using the JMP-1 amp block.

I often wonder how Phil and Viv didn't wander off piste so to speak with the III because there are so many really great marshall tones in there. They obviously stayed on mission and went for the best JMP-1 replica of the old rig but if that was me, I would be too distracted by the JVM, silver jubilee, super lead, 800 etc.. and two years later still trying to decide what I like the most haha

Yeah, they started out using the II for effects and the JMP-1 for the main amp tone. I saw them on the tour when they had the JMP-1 and Axe II. It was actually the same show where they did the rig rundown Nashville. Then I saw them on the stadium tour with just the Axe III. To be honest, I thought the JMP-1 tour sounded better, but that could have been an arena vs. stadium. When you play through Phil’s preset, it doesn’t really sound like a JMP-1 to me because it’s been heavily EQ’d when you dig deep within the parameters. I think it’s also boosted from within the amp block so it’s got more gain than a real unit.

Man I still want this Preset. Phil's just doesn't quite sound like it.
You prefer Viv's tone over Phil's from the Axe III? We haven't actually seen Viv's preset so it's difficult to pinpoint where it might be different. Unless the presets themselves are similar and it's just their styles that are making them sound different.

The overall live sound is excellent, mind you it always has been over the years, this is just the latest iteration of it, but extra interesting for us, to see a band like Leppard making use of the fractal amps & cabs

I don’t understand why Viv’s tech just can’t post the preset lol.

I just came here to say that IMO... Def Leppard is probably the best sounding live rock band currently. Idk what year they started using FAS, they have always sounded great, but within the last 15 years or so, its just been consistent and clear sound. I feel like they always sound like the album when live. I've seen them inside and outside over the years probably 4 times. And any live video I've seen or recordings have sounded similar.
