Fractal VP4!

Forgive me if this had already been shared... ( post directly from Fractal )

I think this would tend to suggest that the VP4 effects will be the same as those on the AXE FX-III .

I'll speculate that the VP price will be roughly $900 , but hoping it's closer $800

The price is pretty much figured out already, it will be somewhere around $650 in the US, as a shop in Bangkok has it for $800.

I'm so surprised to read that people are complaining about "4 pedals only" while running expensive, heave and big boards with 10+ pedals, many of which are digital already, when they can run 2 VP4 max, and with Fractal's flexibility of switches and scenes have any combination of effects they'd normally use within just a couple of switches max.
For those that think a two VP4 setup might meet their wishes ...

I wonder if using 4CM, with the first VP4 for front of amp and the second in the loop, and connecting them via MIDI would make it possible to create "VP4^2", with 8 footswitches to control both units.

I'm sorry if I missed it but what are the dimensions and weight?

I have a FX8 and I'm really happy with how it pairs with my tube amps, channel switchers in particular due to the relays, but it's large and heavy.

I've been thinking about getting a FM3 for something more portable for my Jazz gigs where I only need a minimum number of effects and no modeling. If the VP4 is smaller and lighter it would have some appeal. I'd just use a FM3 but weight reduction would be greatly appreciated.

As I recall ... 10 x 6.3". I've seen the weight posted, but don't remember.

What I meant is that some people, many people, use uuuuuuuge boards, most in front of their amps, and not all of them are using midi. Those boards are not flexible, noisy, heavy, big, expensive, cable mess - you got the idea. Such boards, for the most part, can be replaced with a single VP4 with scenes, or a couple of presets (assuming it's also gapless) most likely. Some might need two. Less space, less noise, and I'm pretty sure - cheaper than those pedals combined.

If you'd need to contol both at the same time using midi, maybe external midi board would be a solution - the one you'd use to manage 10+ pedals to create "scenes".

I don't have an answer or suggestion to manage amp channels, I didn't read the manual posted in another thread. Did you check it? It should have an answer if this is possible.

Yes, a MIDI footswitch pedal could do the trick.

I've only seen snippets of the manual, but didn't see anything about relays on the control switch jacks.

I'm thinking a separate channel switchers might be needed to select physical amp channels, over MIDI.

4 fx blocks when the FX8 had 8? Seriously?
I agree that there are plenty of people who would love to see an updated FX8. It was a great product. Footswitches, layout, ease of setting up presets, simple 4cm (or stereo) routing, and more. With all the updates and additions to the effects, it would be the top of the current market for a full-fledged multi-effect unit, by a large margin.

Perhaps there are plans for a VP-8 as a follow-on product. I expect the VP-4 would be the more popular of the two and therefore it makes sense to start with it.

From what I have seen, with the VP-4 Fractal is targeting a broader market than their existing customer base. This is evident in it having a simpler UI and a more "advanced edit mode" which can be called up for those who reallt want to dive deeper. They want to sell to folks who are comfortable with the typical number of knobs and switches on typical pedals and may be overwhelmed with deep diving options typically associated with Fractal products. It is reasonable to expect such customers to use the VP-4 to replace some of the existing pedals on their boards...a great way to gently introduce them to Fractal products. There are alot of players who are not willing to completely replace their entire pedalboard.

Wish it came with an actual effects loop to plug a FM3 or an amp into to use both the pre and post effects. That would have made things simple.
