We cannot keep a bass player so now I am the bass player (and guitar player)

So I figured out how to use the virtual capo to follow my guitar an octave down and plunge down two octaves when I play above a certain frequency. The tracking is astounding. We played this way as a trio and people said it was the best we’ve sounded.

Would anyone be interested if I made a video tutorial for this, or am I just late to the party and there are already tutorials that I haven’t seen?
 
I would be interested. Im out a bass player too and considering using backing tracks till I get one. The problem is the drummer has a disregard for click tracks.

I think for this scenario the results would probably be better that way.

Plus you can add in the -2 Octave voice for the big bottom!

I just did a gig where I was holding down the low end and guitar all night. With full drums, there’s an expectation for something playing relative to the kick. For much of the night, I used a whammy set an octave down, set to fast tracking (I wanted rhythmically crisp over clean shifting), and about 60 wet mix. The unshifted tone makes the pitch more clear, but the lower octave is felt. I also used a little of the Plucky Synth preset for low end. More than anything, I turned the low end cut to a lower frequency in the cab block. All of that plus a looper got us through a 4 hour casino gig reasonably well. But I was also constantly reminded that the music and idiomatic bass parts make it work over just having lots of bottom; it often sounded fine not using the pitch shifting if I had the bass part down and could do more complex harmonic stuff above it. The relationship between bass and drums is its own unique thing to be maintained, and I would much rather have a great bassist instead.

I’d love to see a tutorial focused specific on how to be a virtual bass player while also playing guitar! My band is just a drummer and me on rhythm, lead and vocals and I try to loop bass parts or just have backing tracks but I’ve already got so much going on. It sounds like this setup will just send my signal to a separate path to just play bass notes for the chords I’m playing?

If so that sounds awesome and I’d love to know how to set that up with this parameter…I don’t know the fractal stuff (or signal chains) enough to understand how to do this to test it out. Even if someone could just verbally explain how to setup this virtual ‘bass player’ chain

It's just doubling what he plays at either 1 or 2 octaves below.

It's not really replacing a bassist but rather just filling out the low end.

Agreed on all counts. This method is more suited to my genre (Progressive Metal). I switch to presets where it’s just bass and drums for parts which can give that bass and drum interplay.

Yeah I understand that, that’s what I figured and meant By the virtual bass player - I just don’t know how to build a patch to do this. I get how it could be done just don’t understand this thing enough to fumble through it.

Honestly as a guitar player, when I do a bass loop it’s basically just that, just playing the same chord on a bass. Nothing with actual bass lines, it doesn’t give the song any additional character but it fills out the sound much better.

I tried searching for this answer but I just haven't been able to figure this out (or I have and I don't know it). I have a two man band, drummer and me on everything else, and wanted to hook this up in my presets to fill out the sound more as the only way we get bass right now is with backing tracks. Works for some songs that have a unique baseline, but most of our originals just need some extra low end.

Can someone explain how to set this up in a preset or post one that does it? I sent my input signal into a virtual capo and put it down -12ct and then ran that through a SV Bass Amp block and 4x10 bass cab. Is that all that is needed? I don't understand how to use the pitch follower for this? All I want is to have a 'virtual bass player' just follow my chords, it sounds like what I did above should do it, correct?

Or maybe I am not understanding this and what I am trying to do is not possible, you know, make one person both the bass player, rhythm and lead guitarist :) as well as lead singer...now that I think of it, the drummer has the best job!

-12 ct is a very minor detune... Like a chorus. That is 12/100ths of a semi-tone.

You want to set the Voice to -12 (12 semi-tones)... That gets an octave down.

Thanks for that clarification!

By "Voice", do you mean the "Shift" knob of the capo in the Virtual Capo settings?
