I hadn't had a lot of chance to play with G3 yet, but after a lot of suggestions to just treat it like a brand new box and try stuff I hadn't previously, I did just that. I had never spent too much time with the Matchless Chieftain (Boutique 1 and 2) previously, but oh man there is some serious goodness in there. I was trying to get in the neighborhood of Chris Qualala's tone on "Your Love Never Fails", and this is by far the closest I've ever gotten without any tweaking except a few minutes playing around with your basic front-panel knobs.
Here's what my amp settings are (I'm using a Strat style guitar with Dimarzio 58/58/61):
Boutique 1
Drive: 5.59
Bass: 0.00 (cut not engaged)
Mid: 10.00
Treb: 8.82 (Bright engaged)
Master: 7.80
Output level to taste, mine is -9.0dB.
Everything else is stock, and I've paired with TAF_Mars+Crem-MIX, but it sounds good with lots of cabs.
