New to Fractal with AX8...need some help

So I got my AX8 late yesterday.
Immediate reaction is every preset is very bright and brittle.
I have a Kemper and an AmpliFIRE and use a CLR so I'm used to the FRFR sound but the AX8 seems way too bright at this point.
I'm willing to admit it could be me as I'm new to Fractal.
Not as intuitive as I thought it would be...anyhoo the main reason for my post is I thought I'd just build me a preset from scratch and I was doing so when every LED on the front panel came on and my unit basically froze up.
I've cycled it numerous times with everything unplugged but I can't get past this event.
Don't see anything in the manual for a master reset...Any ideas?

From page 89 of the manual:
"The AX8 has a built in recovery routine. Power the unit off. Hold down the SHIFT button, and then power the unit on. Hold the button for about one second beyond the power up, and then release. Turn the page to the FIRMWARE screen, and you will be able to install firmware using Fractal-Bot."
