How to Programme Behringer FCB1010 (no chip) to switch between axe fx ultra patches

Hi guys,

I bought an Behringer FCB1010 MIDI footswitch (without the Uno Chip) to switch between patches on my Axe FX Ultra but can't figure out how to link them up. All I want to do is switch between the first four patches on the Axe FX, I'm not fussed about programming the expression pedals so getting the Uno Chip doesn't seem neccessary.

Could someone please give me step-by-step instructions on how to programme the footswitch to switch between patches on the Axe FX Ultra?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Tony

Hi Jens,

Thanks for getting in touch. I had a look at that thread and it appears to be about programming it through a laptop which I don't want to do as I just want to use the footswitch and the axe fx live. I've had a look around but most other posts are about the axe fx 2 or the footswitch with the uno chip. I also saw some mention of using computer software to programme the footswitch but all I want to do is switch between the first four patches on the axe fx so surely that must be possible to programme using just the footswitch and the control panel of the axe fx? Some step-by-step instructions would be very much appreciated.

Apologies if the answer is simple but I'm relatively new to all of this!

Cheers,

Tony

ok. I can't really tell you since I have the uno chip myself, but maybe somebody else? The FCB1010 is supposed to be horrible to program only using the buttons, but I never tried..

You did notice that it is not a thread but a complete sub forum?

Yeah I had a look through and can't seem to find the answer, hopefully someone will be able to help!

Cheers,

Tony

Hi Tony,
Which patch numbers on the AXE are you trying to place to which presets on the FCB1010? I have a FCB1010 without the uno chip. I may be able to help you out.

Thanks very much Phil. I'd like presets 1, 2, 3 & 4 on the footswitch to control patches 0, 1, 2 & 3 on the Axe FX.

The FCB1010 is supposed to be horrible to program only using the buttons,

It sure is hell

I used to have the FCB without the chip, it was working ok.
Did you buy a new one or used? If it is used, maybe its programed in a way…
Try to factory reset it first, than make sure the MIDI channels on both are the same number or at least the Axe MIDI is on OMNI (allows any channel to enter).
My 2 cents…

Hi Tony,
As I mentioned, I use the FCB1010 without the Uno chip, and it works great!
I have written the steps below, yet if you have the manual, I would direct you to page 7, and 8.
If you do not have a manual, you can download one here: Behringer: MIDI FOOT CONTROLLER FCB1010

Page 7 is the global Configuration. This will help you to get the Axe and the FCB on the same MIDI channels: Specifically manual sections 2.2 and 2.2.2. The FCB1010 is by default set to MIDI channel 1. So it may be easier to set the AXE to chan 1 and skip sections 2.2 and 2.2.2. On the AXE FX ULTRA navigate to the MIDI page, then verify chan 1 is set as the MIDI chan. You can also set the AXE FX ULTRA to OMNI which will listen to all MIDI channels just to make sure it works, but usually it’s better to set it to the channel that the other unit is transmitting on. In this case, MIDI Chan 1.

Section 2.3 Explains how to change the Program changes, etc.
Here’s how I do it quickly:
1. Have the AXE FX Ultra on, the FCB1010 on, set to the same MIDI channel
2. Connect a MIDI cable from the MIDI OUT of the FCB1010 to the MIDI IN of the AXE FX Ultra.

Choosing which footswitch that you want your patch on.
3. Select the PRESET you wish to edit on the FCB1010
4. Using the UP/DOWN switches, select the bank where you want your patches.(In your case, press the DOWN(Switch 2) footswitch multiple times until you see the LED’s display “00” )
5. Using the numbered footswitches, choose where you want your first effect. (In your case, select footswitch 1. footswitch 1 LED will light.

Choosing the patch for that footswitch
6. Press and hold the DOWN footswitch for more than 2.5 seconds to enter PRESET programming MODE(LED will go out, flashing green light on SWITCH1 SWITCH 2)
7. Press UP/ENTER to confirm
8. Press Footswitch # 1 momentarily to select Program Change (footswitch 1 LED flashes) This tells the FCB1010 that you’re going to be editing patch changes.
9. Press UP/ENTER to confirm
10. Using either the UP/DOWN footswitches or the PARAMETER EXPRESSION PEDAL A to choose the MIDI patch of the AXE FX ULTRA for this preset. (In your case “01” on the FCB1010 will be patch “00” on the AXE FX ULTRA)
11. After selecting the patch, pres UP/ENTER to confirm.
12. Press DOWN/ESCAPE for more than 2.5 seconds to get back to normal FCB1010 function.
13. Repeat for other patch assignments.
This should have you up and running in no time. Should you want patches that are not in order on your AXE FX Ultra, just set the Program change in step 10 to that patch.

I think that you’ll also find section 2.4.1 handy. It’s how to copy patches. This was helpful for me to copy all of my cool patches to another bank. This way if I broke a string on a show and changed guitars from say a Strat to a 335, one bank of patches was dialed in for single coil pick ups, and then I also had a bank of the same patches just dialed in for humbuckers.
I hope that this helps.

Sorry I didn't answer until now, I was on a small tour with my band :)

I don't remember how I did, but all the info I used (and needed) was here:
http://www.voes.be/fcb1010/software.htm

Hope that helps!
