It's difficult to remember what is the configuration of every channel of every block. The more complex is the preset, more difficult to remember it.
The obvious solution is allow the user to enter a text description for every channel of every block.
The ability of writing notes has been wished a lot of times, but it hasn't be implemented. After reading several threads, it seems that the main problem is the storage of data text in the FM3/AXE, because there is not enough memory.
Maybe the following system of tags can be a solution. The storage would be very small, and the user could assign tags very fast and easily.
I try to explain it as good as I can:
TWO TYPES OF TAGS
Factory Tags (not editable)
User Tags (editable)
THREE GROUPS OF TAGS
Amp Tags for Amp Blocks
Cab Tags for Cab Blocks
FX Tags for the rest of blocks
FOUR HASHTAG VARIABLES
#AMP
#CABS
#FX
#theOtherChannels
#AMP takes the short name of the amp model of the channel of the AMP blocks
#CABS takes the short names of the cabs unmuted of the channel of the CAB blocks
#FX takes the short name of the effect of the block (for example #FX="DRV" for Drive blocks)
#theOtherChannels takes the letters of the channels not active (if you are in Ch.B, then #theOtherChannels="A, C, D")

TWO LOCATIONS FOR CHANNEL TAGS
LOCATION A
Marked in green, this field is currently showing the Channel and the Amp of the active scene, with an (i) circled at the beginning.
I propose to change the (i) for the Tracking icon of the scene manager, with the same functionality. If the Tracking icon is on, then the field shows the channel and the tag of the selected block of the grid.
LOCATION B
It's a new field located below the Block Library. It shows the tag of the current channel selected.
After one click, it shows the menu for changing the current tag.
If someday is possible, a double click would put the cursor inside the field to write an alternative custom text (not a tag, simply a single note exclusive for that channel).
AMP TAGS MENU EXAMPLES
Amp type of Channel A is JS410 Crunch Orange. Current tag is "#AMP Cleaner than Ch.C":
Amp type of Channel C is JS410 Lead Red. Current tag is "#AMP Distortion":
Amp type of Channel D is Capt Hook 2B. Current tag is "#AMP Overdrive":
FX TAGS MENU EXAMPLE
Channel A of Reverb block. Current tag is "Medium #FX":
TAGS HOVER MOUSE
When mouse is over the letter of channel, the tag is shown:
Same behaviour when Scene Manager is active:
SCENE MANAGER
Drop-down menu showing Channel and current tag when clicking:
USER TAGS
User tags are an editable list of 40 tags, with restricted qty of characters per tag.
User tags can be global or block-depending.
The user can use "#AMP", "#CABS", "#FX" in the User Tags.
EXAMPLE:
Code User Tags Availability
00 ................ Sequenced -->(Global)
01 ................ Pedal1#FX -->(Global)
02 ................ Pedal2#FX -->(Global)
03 ................ Infiinite -->(only showed in Delay, TenTapDelay, PlexDelay, MegatapDelay blocks)
04 ................ 2 echos -->(only showed in Delay, TenTapDelay, PlexDelay, MegatapDelay blocks)
05 ................ 3 echos -->(only showed in Delay, TenTapDelay, PlexDelay, MegatapDelay blocks)
FACTORY TAGS
Factory tags are coded from 40 to 99
Code Factory Tag
40 ................ #AMP
...
99 ................ #FX PANNED TO RIGHT
SIZE FOR DATA STORAGE
The list of User and Factory tags are coded from 00 to 99.
Taking 15 blocks used per preset as a reasonable average, every preset have to store around 60 codes of 2 digits.
ABOUT FACTORY TAGS
The proposed factory tags are the ones what I would like/use. Sure there are other tags more necessary or useful, so feel free to propose what you want.
EXCEPTION 1: IN&OUT BLOCKS
Only factory tags of volume and panning are available for the channels of these blocks.
EXCEPTION 2: M-PLEX BLOCK
Channels of M-PLEX takes the Input Select as the Channel Tag.
EXCEPTION 3: EQ BLOCKS
Channel description for Eq can be totally different for every user.
These channels should have the availability of entering an exclusive description per channel, or disable the Channel tags for EQ blocks.
EXCEPTION 4: MIXER, FORMANT & PITCH BLOCKS
Difficult to find factory tags for common usage.
