Broken headstock

I looked at a Les Paul Heritage Series Standard 80 last week and noticed that the numbers (serial number and four-digit run number) were difficult to see. Having owned one of these guitars I know from experience that the numbers can be (or should be) seen clearly.

The gentleman showing me the guitar was "Burst Believers" book co-author David Plues. :)

He explained that the guitar belonged to a friend and he wanted to buy it for himself. It was a beauty. But when I mentioned that the rear of the headstock had been painted he could not confirm or deny as to what the state of play was.

But he knows more about guitars than me. :) But I still say it was refinished in thicker than standard paint.

But if it had been for sale and the price had been right I would have loved to have taken it home.

I don't mind broken necked Les Pauls as I own two.

I am glad that things got sorted out for the op. Gibson quality control must fluctuate a lot!
