Bandcamp bought by Epic Games

Yeah, that sucks. That's the one place on the net that I bought music from. The only reason Epic would have bought it was to ultimately fuck it up.

Let's wait first how it develops over time. Right now it's still a great place to be both as an artist (I have my stuff on there aswell) and a customer.
That's fair, but inductively:

i) MP3.com was cool. Got bought. Became cr*p.

ii) eMusic was cool. Got bought. Became cr*p.

And (sorry for the follow-up), when more entities are grabbing for money (Epic and Tencent), it has to come from somewhere. The artists will make less and have less control.

I just really hate the impulse to monetize every f***ing detail to the gills. I'm not against profit, to be clear. Bandcamp takes about 15%, which seems fair. They claim they gave $206 million to artists last year, so that means (back of envelope calculation) they took in approx. $36 million in revenue last year.

The basic functionality of Bandcamp is relatively simple. Anyone want to start a (real) independent competitor?
