Any reconmendations on recording gear for beginner

Hey guys i really want to start recording but im kinda clueless on what i need, i have a mac book pro and garage band and a really small m audio direct box. I will need speakers to listen to the tracks as well. One question i have, can i power speakers with my art sla2 for more volume for play back on tracks?

Yep, you can go computer > Art power amp > speakers, if they are full-range speakers.

You might want a better audio interface than what is in your macbook though. I have a Motu 828MK3 for sale that would do nicely! PM me for more info.

It's rack-mountable, has lots of analog ins and outs, digital in/out in various formats, midi in/out, headphone jacks with their own volume control, and front-pannel instrument/mic combo inputs.

As long as your mac has a firewire port, you'd be all set.

I use a Presonus Firebox which doubles as a midi interface and audio interface with a firewire connection from my mac. Check into Logic Express when Garageband isn't enough.
