Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 8.02 Firmware Release

Cliff could take many months off and still produce a firmware update before Line6! Still waiting for another one for the Helix.....ahem....
  2. MikeAllenPugh

    Previous versions available?

    Works perfectly! Fabulous. Many thanks.
  3. MikeAllenPugh

    Previous versions available?

Hi, I'm not able to update my MFC-Edit from 5.2 to the latest version (7.0 Build 3912) as there looks to be a known problem with updating to this on W10 32-bit. Until somebody fixes the issue (reported by another user too), are there any other previous v7 versions available anywhere that I can...
  4. MikeAllenPugh

Are there different installers for 32bit and 64bit Windows?

Oh no. I'm getting exactly the same. :( Currently stuck on 5.2 Build 3450.
  5. MikeAllenPugh

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 6.00 Public Beta

You're not the only one. No chance of upgrading. :( I hear the sound of lots of single people waving their wads of cash around! ;)

    Welcome ANDY SUMMERS

Completely agree. Wonderful voicings on the DVD. Available still on Hot Licks.

    Welcome ANDY SUMMERS

OHHHHH YES! I'm currently doing a Police\Sting Tribute, so I'll be keeping an every closer eye. :)

FracTool - for power users only

Now works perfectly. Go figure! It's probably my PC for you.....
  9. MikeAllenPugh

FracTool - for power users only

I'm running Windows 10. It happens on any preset it seems (been through quite a few), however FracTool DOES change the amps no problem at all. However....odd one this....AxeChange Presets was working fine, after a reboot now it won't. Comes up with the error below. The AxeChange Cabs bit works...
  10. MikeAllenPugh

FracTool - for power users only

REALLY good work. Definitely donating for the conversion factor alone. I'm getting some "Cannot create accessible...." errors in the Amp Compare section. Not sure what that's all about.... I'm running the original Axe-II.
  11. MikeAllenPugh

FracTool - for power users only

Since upgrading my PC from Windows 8 to Windows 10 I've had no issues at all. I use BitDefender and it was grumbling about a virus on the Windows 8 install. Absolutely NO virus at all. The issue is at the USER END - simple as that!

    Message In A Bottle HARMONY?

Just converted it to the Axe-FX II format and the Pitch block doesn't look it's converted. Just shows detune. :( Could you post a photo of what the block looks like, or a file download of the block itself? Here's what mine shows and it does nothing. :( Many thanks for posting this as I'm trying...

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 1.06 Firmware Release

I agree. They are great amps. Sound completely different from the Cornford range (that goodness!). Definitely the longest I've seen without a firmware update. I wonder what Cliff has up his sleeve..... ;)

    Most excellent!:)

    Gigging without an amp .....

I did 2 big open air gigs with no backline - just the Axe-FX. The sound engineers couldn't get to grips with me saying "Give me the mic XLR....done...all levels balanced out for you". Really didn't have a clue and both gigs were hard work at best.
  17. MikeAllenPugh

Fixed Possible bug in Quantum v1

Uh ohhhh. Will try this tonight as not plugged in MFC yet.
  18. MikeAllenPugh

Did you sell your "REAL" rig in favor of the Axe?

I'll never sell my valve rigs as you cannot beat them for sound (for me anyway). However, the Axe-FX is so much more versatile (Scenes are a blessing and I don't have to invest in a Gig-Rig controller for my army of pedals). The Axe-FX isn't for all - for example, I've done four gigs where I've...

AX8 Price Point - At what price do you get upset?

According to the wife, it's £1. Any more than that and she gets upset.
  20. MikeAllenPugh

FRFR sounds terrible to my ears compared to poweramp/cab. What am I doing wrong?

My CLR power amp blew up at a gig I was depping at recently (thankfully OUT2 to FOH saved the day through stage monitors. And a massive thanks to Tom King for getting a new power section to me in a matter of a few days - highly impressive). As we had two really big gigs the next day, the band...

Fractal Audio has been challenged, or so it seems.

I use the Positive Grid stuff alot - really like it. But as for the guys in the video, I really wish I could have called in an F-15 strike on their house to make it stop. Man, if I were out with them for a beer I'd kill them...or batter them with a Pod XT Live or something.
  22. MikeAllenPugh

And Finally Scored One of These

    Yeah, I second that.
  23. MikeAllenPugh

    G3?

    Do you mean 'model'?
  24. MikeAllenPugh

Just about to give up with my CLR

Thanks all for your valuable input. Very much appreciated. Just blew an audition "Perfect playing, Perfect sound....you're sound was clinical". So time go back to (a) normal cabs with a Matrix or (b) back to my trusty valve amps (with maybe an FX-8 in the loop). You maybe seeing an active CLR...

    Boston - More Than A Feeling - harmony\patch

Hi, Got a last minute audition in a few days time and they are doing Boston's 'More Than A Feeling'. I've tried to get the solo harmony sections but nothing sounds right. Anybody have any ideas (or a patch for an original MKII) on what the pitch block settings are? Thanks in advance, Mike
  28. MikeAllenPugh

Just about to give up with my CLR

Hi, Before I admit defeat with the Atomic CLR as a backline piece of kit, I thought I'd ask you all if you've got a solution to a problem. I've tried IR upon IR (I've got goodness knows how many from Cab Packs over the years) and nothing seems to do the job. My common problem is not being...
  29. MikeAllenPugh

Which Cab Pack next? Do you like it BIG or small?

Smaller. More than enough 4x12s to cover the moon!
  30. MikeAllenPugh

    Matrix customer service

I had a GT1000FX and tested the light 2x12 when in Beta stage - the UK/Europe sales guy, Matt, lives a few miles from me and he was beyond helpful. Spoke to Andy Hunt at great length too. Even tried the passive wedge - I hated it (just not for me) and had absolutely no issues with a return...

    Firmware forecast?

"New gear stealth mode" - handy for those with wives/girlfriends.

    Free OwnHammer 112 IRs

For me, the freebie Mix cab is one of the best I've tried. Warm, cutting, expressive and fits with so much. I've bought all of the Fractal Cab packs, but I think Kevin's IR's will be my go-to cabs.
  37. MikeAllenPugh

    VU/Output Meters

This would be wonderful. It was save me walking between my PC and Axe (or flipping back and forth through options).
  38. MikeAllenPugh

    Time for UK axefest!?

    Depends where, but yeah. :)
  39. MikeAllenPugh

So many updates, so much tech details.. now i just cannot PLAY!

I know exactly where you are coming from!! LOL. The Axe-FX is the best thing that I've ever bought - period. However, with my time as precious as yours being busy at work/commuting/etc, I'm finding that I want to go back to my valve amps, stick a couple of pedals in front and play. I found...

  42. MikeAllenPugh

    Cab-Pack 10!

Tried the Mark Day cab IR's with the stock Mark Day HBE preset - what a difference. Absolutely love the new capture method. :). With G3 technology it's like The Keymaster and Gatekeeper coming together in Ghostbusters. :)

Top Gear fans? Clarkson sacked from TG

About ruddy time! Maybe we can have programmes about cars now. It's been stagnant with that over-exaggerating trio for many years now. Clarkson will survive...I'm quite sure of that. Hence I will lose 0% sleep over it. :)

Suggestions on what you've done to enjoy 18.03

I've uploaded the factory presets and the using some of those as a base. It gives you the opportunity to really get the best out of G3, due to it being a major update. Some old patches transferred well and others didn't. The Man Of Steel is right....your ears are you best asset and the...

Shout out to YEK for the AXE FX II WIKI site and work on upgrades

Fabulous work as always by Yek. Used to love following his preset updates, but am but a mere lowly Axe-FX MkII owner with no hope of crossing into XL land (unless somebody gives me a gargantuan pay rise!).

beginner: save for the tap dancing set up or the axe-fx set up?

I've had more tap dancing mega boards than the National Ballet. I went to the Axe-FX and never looked back for a second. FAR more versatile and you'll save your back a lot of pain (and cabling/velcro avalanches!)

FW18 Final - What does a non-power user need to do?

Thanks, Chris. It's great to have things updated, but I normally think "Errrr, ok the function is there, but what does it do?". Nice to have some explanation against it (e.g. why use the USB Return Level?). Your explanations are always informative.

    Cab-Lab 3 Launched!

    Cab-Lab 3 Launched!

Wish I could get mine to work. Got the upgrade to CabLab3 and installed iLok. iLok won't run (just starts and disappears) and CabLab says it isn't a Win32 app. :( Running XP (still!).

how much reworking of patches has FW18b caused you?

Same here. It seems to make a difference to my ears. If not necessary then all good.

4 cable method killing my tone

Do you need a buffer in the loop? I had to with my Dr Z Maz 38 when I had a G-System. Depends on what loop level is operating at. Ah....just seen the problem is fixed. I'll leave this here anyway, as it could be helpful to somebody else.
  53. MikeAllenPugh

how much reworking of patches has FW18b caused you?

Had to reset amps on all patches. Now they've come to life. Happy to re-work the patches for the additional benefit. :)

I'm Just Going to Leave This Here

Being a real hater of the rather overused word "AWESOME" (to describe even the mediocre now!), I just have to use this word in its proper context when it comes to this. AWESOME! Will definitely have to look at this as a backup for my Axe. Dang this looks fabulous!
  55. MikeAllenPugh

Axe-Fx II Firmware 18.00 Public Beta

Sounds great so far. Only grumble is that the Rotary block is now ON in every patch that has it (where it should be off).

    Ruminating on Selling Amp Collection

Yeah, feels odd. I'm selling most of mine and keeping on main amp and a 2x12 and 1x12 cab. Hate doing it, but I've not switched mine on in over 18 months other than for a quick blast for 10 mins. Going to pick up a nice little backup in case the Axe goes bang one night. When using valve amps, I...

    glassy sound

For me, i'll take what I've got as I know it gets better all of the time. Every band situation has its own space for you to sit. In a band where it faces me as a wedge with no backline then it's perfect. I'll take the more versatile option every time. :)
  71. MikeAllenPugh

    glassy sound

Would never go from my Axe setup though. The advancements, portability and options are just stupidily good. Nothing to touch it.
  72. MikeAllenPugh

    glassy sound

Agree with that, Chris. Totally subjective.
  73. MikeAllenPugh

    glassy sound

That's mainly what I get too. Had a good loud rehearsal the other night and it was missing that 'body' (no bass - just natural balls). Have tried all sorts, but cannot get the CLR and Axe to come close to a traditional amp/cab. If I could....I'd sell my amps and cabs - no hesitation. Until then...

New passive graphic EQ is the $hit

    Radiohead's pedalboard

Good video for sure. One of my previous boards (pre-MFC days) was like this and, although I still have all of the pedals, I don't miss the back ache! But replace amazing with awesome it becomes just like an everyday conversation these days where even mediocre things are branded 'AWESOME!'. :)...

    About the Axe-Fx II XL

XL to II patch convertor definitely needed! Not being up to date with the likes of Yek and his patches really sucks. Still trying to pay for the II setup. :( Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Did your effect pedals GAS stop since you bought your Axe fx?

Along with the Axe-FX, marriage stops GAS! But yes, the only thing I've bought (pedals, amps or cabs) is a TC VoiceLive2. And that's been in over 2 years. I can't bear to part with my old setups though as if the Axe-FX blows up then I'm a bit screwed!
  79. MikeAllenPugh

Glenn Fricker reviews the Axe-fx II

Jesus, I bet he's popular in restaurants!!! "The Axe-FX saving grace is it's Tone Matching system"..............(to put in his language "ARE YOU F*****G JOOOOOOOOKKKKKIIINNNNNNGGGGG?"). Yes, the Axe-FX is expensive, and yes the pedalboard is very much overpriced, but what it's saved me and...

    Welcome MARK DAY!

My day just got a shitload better. FABULOUS NEWS!!!! :) Along with Ketil Strand's demoes, Mark was the other major player in my decision to go with FAS. Well done, Mark. Looking forward to seeing more of your valuable contributions.

Atomic CLR active wedge and....darn IR's in rehearsal

Yeah, that's what I was finding with some. Good approach though. With a reasonable amount of bass, fantastic keys and everything else joining in proves interesting for the balance of : (a) What you can feel (b) What you can hear and (c) What cuts through but without sounding 'cutting'. Things...

Atomic CLR active wedge and....darn IR's in rehearsal

Oh yes, my Fostex- X-28 is nodding away. If I can get a recording then that would be great. I think in the meantime I'll have to adopt a "Please bear with me, it'll be worth it!" stance. :)
  83. MikeAllenPugh

Atomic CLR active wedge and....darn IR's in rehearsal

Yeah, I boosted on Global and it just sounded very spikey. I think I'm going to hire out a hall for a few hours on my own and go for it.
  84. MikeAllenPugh

Atomic CLR active wedge and....darn IR's in rehearsal

Not blaming the tools at all (otherwise I'd be right back to my valve amps). Some of us have plenty of time for carpentry and have very patient band members who like have lots off faffing around during rehearsal time. Unfortunately I'm not one of them in either case! ;)
  85. MikeAllenPugh

Atomic CLR active wedge and....darn IR's in rehearsal

Atomic CLR active wedge and....darn IR's in rehearsal

Hi, Does anybody use a CLR in a backline band situation (I only own one unfortunately!) and successfully get a good sound? Just looking for two Ultra-Res IRs to use with a Friedman BE\HBE and one with anything clean. Had a rehearsal\audition last night and the sound just disappeared. Always...

I wish it did. Absolutely cannot afford to update to an XL (besides, it would be a bit of overkill for me). FAS - Any chance for a convertor?

Question about Atomic CLR loudness and clipping

I have a set of ER9's : ACS ER9 Hearing Protection I've had them remoulded 3 times and have tried -9db and -15db filters. I can safely say that they are not flat response. It takes all of the guts and feel out of what you are trying to play. Good points, you can hear everybody else (vocals...
  91. MikeAllenPugh

Owns Axe FX XL and uses only one amp

The only thing I now like about traditional valve amps and cabs is that I don't have to faff with CPU overload, patch levelling, trying all sorts of IRs so I can try and be happy with the backline sound, etc. However, those aside, I'll always work with an Axe-FX from now on. Already saved me a...
