Where to download MFC-Edit

Locate where the MFC-Edit.jar file is. There should be another jar file called "balloontip-1.2.4.1.jar". Make sure that the balloontip-1.2.4.1.jar file is also in your JAVA_PATH. If balloontip-1.2.4.1.jar isn't in the same directory as MFC-Edit.jar, copy it there and it should work.

You might want to download version 8.5 - you're using a version that is about 5 major versions behind the latest. See if that works. And specifically read the section in the MFC-Edit Owner's Manual entitled "Sending and Receiving SysEx Dumps". You can access the manual right off the Help menu.

Prompted to update from 7.2 to 8.3 but just goes in loop

:) Glad it worked for you. When 7.2 was first uploaded to the servers the MAC version had an update bug. We fixed it as soon as we found out about it but those people who upgraded to version 7.2 before the newer build got the bug and this workaround is the only way to overcome it. Sorry about that.

Awesome. Glad you got it sorted out. I'm okay with it if you use your key on both computers as long as they are the same OS (eg, both Windows or both MAC). Otherwise you'll need two licenses. Also, and this is just my opinion, I rather think it unlikely that you'll be editing MFC-101 settings...

You would need nothing more than changing the Axe-Fx Mode parameter on the BASE CONFIG page from Axe-Fx III to Axe-Fx II and select the correct communications port. (Or you could just change the Axe-Fx Mode and Communication Port in the MFC-101 itself using the built-in editor).

MFC data load won't go past "Songs"

The "speed" of transmission is very important and has to be almost exact for this to work. Slow down the transmission to the MFC-101 a bit. If that doesn't work then the dump (sysex file) might be corrupt. If you send me the dump that you are trying to load I will take a look at it for you.

Thanks unix-guy. I addressed this in his support ticket. He didn't have the basic connectivity working correctly between the MFC and anything else so he's working on that first.

It's a feature, actually. Go to File->Preferences and on the Preferences popup click on the "VIRTUAL MFC-101" tab. Deselect/un-check the "Always Popup on BASE CONFIF page" and "Always Popup on IA SWITCHES page" options and then click the "Done" button. I apologize for it being a bit annoying...

MFC Edit Song List Length

It's not a limitation of MFC-Edit, but a limitation with the MFC-101 controller itself - it can only hold 100 songs. You can save two separate configurations to your hard disk and just upload the one you need for each band as you perform with one band or the other.

If you can't do a straight MFC-101 dump, through the EMU to the computer (either Fractal Bot or MFC-Edit) then the problem is cables or the EMU. Most likely the sequencing of your activities though. I have tested with the EMU and its mostly works for dumping the MFC-101 - it doesn't work very...

There is more than one way to make the connection actually, but for someone who hasn't done it before the method I suggest is the fastest route to success :-). You don't even want to know how I actually connect my own rig :-)

Yes, that's correct. Only one MIDI cable and the power transformer should be plugged into your MFC-101 during dump/load. No other cables should be connected.

Yep. Let me guess, you're using the Axe-Fx as the USB/MIDI interface. Unless you have the time to invest in getting the Axe-Fx set correctly as the USB/MIDI interface I'd recommend that you purchase a Roland UM-One USB/MIDI interface. It just works. WIth the Axe-Fx as the USB/MIDI interface...

I purchased MFC Edit

You can use any of the USB/MIDI cables or adapters mentioned in the manual. Or you can use the Axe-Fx as the USB/MIDI interface. My personal favorite is the Roland UM-ONE. It will probably work if you have a MIDI interface card inserted into you PC also but I haven't tried that.
