ZZ Top "Fool For Your Stockings" clean tone

This one of my favorite clean tones ever. If glass were a sound, this is what it would sound like. Just beautiful. Pretty sure the guitar used is of huge importance here. Don't know what was used on the recording though. My guess would be a Strat or a Tele. Not sure which. Any ideas for a starting point for this tone? Thanks!

Ok, try an amp like "tweed" or"plexi", crank it clean with a litt'le crunchy bite. Choose your favorite reverb - t think, that's it. I play with the strat neck pu, it sounds great.

Thanks, Frizze! I'll try that out. Thought I was hearing some compression in there as well, but maybe not.

That's a weird tone, I always thought it sounded like no amp at all, just guitar direct to console with some heavy compression.

One of my all-time fave albums!
