split the EMG coils, and then pick as far back (close to the bridge) as you can, for more gnarly bite.

Unfortunately, only a few EMG-models can be split. The stock ones on the ESP Ltd EC1000 (EMG 60/81, at least on mine) can't.

Looks like there's only 3 wires coming out of those two pickups (EMG 60 and EMG 81), so no tapping.

Clicked on thread hoping for 16.02 info... was disappointed!

No, only the "TW"-models can be coil tapped. All other models are built in such a way that they can't be tapped.

The trick with EMGs is to split the coils, roll back the volume pot, crank the AXE FX and control the pick/finger attack dynamically.
