Wierd noise coming from the gizmo when shut off?

The sound engineer told me the black box was putting out a strange signal. I said my rig was turned off. He turned it up for me to hear. Sure enough, I heard a wacky noise that sounded like a combination of white noise and static. When I unplugged the XLRs from output one that go to the house, it stopped. Anyone else have this problem?

Not me. My FX is stone cold quiet off or on.

Who cares how it sounds when it's off?

It won't matter much as long as the FOH engineer remembers to mute my channels when I shut down to go off stage.

Is it that loud to be heard over audience noise? Does it do that from the 1/4"s too? Mine does have a slight whizzing sound, but only when it's on (like the fan, but it's coming from the speakers, my Ultra is European, silent fan) but it's minute even compared to a guitar connected not playing. You know, static n' stuff. When I play a note it takes my ears off, that's how loud I have to set it to hear that whine.

BTW, it's spelled "weird". http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090305/
