simp off screen

That's a problem they don't realize they have, but it's blindingly obvious to everyone else. It used to be that there was certain mystique about actors, rock stars, etc. You'd basically only see them on screen and sometimes read a tabloid story written by other people about them, and you'd imbue them with the qualities they perhaps didn't have. Now they're all posting utterly retarded shit on Twitter and Instagram all the time. Truly, better to remain silent a be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.

Not going to vote.

I consider 'Bond' to have several different era's. Connery basically invented the character that is generally judged as the standard, but from one who read the books, Bond is NOT a stable individual in any way. By that estimation, Craig is more in the 'spirit' of what Fleming was going for. (A charming psychopath that was pushed in 'somewhat' to the right direction in life.)

Frankly, the first time I didn't miss Connery was Brosnan. It was also a time they had truly empowered women...not just beautiful women with Phd's waiting to be saved and subsequently seduced by Bond. For pure camp, the Moore ones work...but I never got the sense of 'physicality' and athletic prowess I would expect out of a highly trained agent...too soft. I also don't think that Lazenby did badly...but that suffered from the camp of the decade as well. Dalton lost me when he popped a wheelie on a Semi truck.

So of all these, I like the bookends of Connery and Craig.

I love Connery, Craig, and Brosnan all for different reasons. I always really liked Timothy Dalton's portrayal of the character, but he got bad movies. And his darker portrayal was a little before its time. If he had been there post-Bourne he would have done a great job in Craig's shoes in Casino Royale.

I have watched all the Bond movies more times than I can count. Dalton movies are dead last for me. I like a lot of the Moore movies, even if they are campy. I like Sean Connery a lot as Bond, but I really enjoyed the latest Casino Royal with Craig. I didn't really like the ones after that. They were okay, but I'd rather re-watch any of the older ones before those.

I like Craig in other movies but loathe him as Bond, I won't watch any others until he is replaced. Moore, Connery and Brosnan are equally awesome.

Voted for Sean Connery as he was Bond when I was growing up. Had the Aston-Martin toy car and all of that cool stuff so he is indelibly linked to the character to me.

My dad loved Bond movies and I can remember going to see "Diamonds Are Forever" with him at the movies as well as all of the Roger Moore flicks in the 70's and 80's which, at the time, were pretty cool but can't really get into them these days.

Never liked the Brosnan era at all; way, way too over-the-top for my liking, even for Bond movies where that's expected. It's too bad those ones didn't have better writing, etc. since I did think Brosnan was a good actor and fit the role well.

I have to say that Daniel Craig is the "best" Bond IMO; a perfect combination of suaveness and grit. For me, "Casino Royale" is the best Bond movie of all time and I was stoked to see how they re-booted his character with an edge and re-tooled the series. Unfortunately, it all stopped there; the subsequent movies with Craig are huge disappointments after such a great start and some of the worst of the series IMO.

Perhaps it's time for sharks with laser beams attached to their heads heh.

Casino Royale is--if not "the" pinnacle of the series--certainly one of them, on a short list. But the Craig films fell victim to the 2010s homogenized, corporate, write-by-committee tentpole film death grip and dropped off in a huge way after Casino Royale. Quantum had some moments. Skyfall was beautifully shot, but by that point the series had more or less lost its footing. Spectre was an out and out disaster from start to finish, IMO.

It's hard to overstate how disruptive (fatal?) the 1-2-3 combo of Austin Powers, Bourne, and then Marvel has been to the Bond franchise. The Broccolis answered AP and Bourne with Casino Royale, but just when Bond had found its footing, the Marvel films fundamentally redefined the mega-franchise---for better or for worse.

Spectre's asinine attempts at retconning all the Craig films together illustrated painfully the level at which Bond is again desperately floundering, much as it has at the end of every Bond era in some way or another.

Bond has always changed with the times through reinvention and I have to believe it'll be back at some point. 🤞🤞

The first half of Skyfall is a work of art that deserves to be in a museum. Also, the soundtrack of the first half of Skyfall was almost entirely done with Omnisphere :).

Interesting thoughts on the fall of pre-Craig Bond flicks and I'd agree with your reasons. I remember seeing the Bourne movies (and read the books previously to seeing them as I was a big Robert Ludlum fan) and thinking of how they made the latest Bond movies of the time pale in comparison and look goofy. They were so much better 'secret agent' movies by a large margin.

Certainly after Austin Powers they needed to retool the series and I saw a 'making of' documentary for "Casino Royale" where the producers said as much. There was no going back to 'campy Bond' and I was happy to see the results of that mindset.

I watched "Casino Royale" and all of the "Jason Bourne" movies over the last few weeks...great movies and among my favorites (well, not "The Bourne Legacy"; not a fan of that one at all).

As a 50+ gent it was always sean and roger. I watched Bond and TV in general to get away from the real world so the Brosnan, Craig bonds do nothing for me ( but bond films are always good entertainment). I even Bought a Lotus Esprit because of Bond... Nothing Quite like driving around with Bassey and Carly on the cassette player :)
Dalton...Mmm
Now Lazenby.. I liked..+ Diana Rigg ... Sean and Roger it will always be though......
Im Voting for Lazenby though because .... He had one chance in the iconic role and he pulled it off.. I will watch it again if its on.. Telly Savalas is in it... Joanna Lumley is in it (look closely).... and its unique.

If only he had drunk Whisky with no ice then he would have been a top gent...
