Between Sean Connery recent passing and my sporadic keeping up with the series, I've decided I'd watch all the Bond movies within the month!

I'm not voting yet since I haven't seen some of actors perform their take on 007, but I'm curious to know what others think, and what it was like to grow up with the movies...

I would tend to agree, but I'm giving the others a chance.

Oh yeah, and for those of you who have not endured this yet... learn from my mistake! Do not watch the 1967 Casino Royale--it's a goofy comedy. Not words one associates with the James Bond franchise.

I voted for Daniel Craig... I'm probably an oddball ;)

I watched random Bond movies growing up, but definitely not all of them. Most of the Sean Connery movies were out before I was born.

So, I think the Craig movies are solid action/adventure films. He's a great lead in that genre.

I'm sure he's totally not fitting based on the books but I haven't read any, so that doesn't bother me :)

I bet they didn't want and wouldn't have been allowed to do that particular torture scene back then.

You probably should have phrased the question, "After Connery, who was the best Bond?" :D

I grew up in the Roger Moore era, but those movies were like cartoons. I would put Craig and Brosnan as close 2nd and 3rd. The Brosnan movies retained a lot of the Moore era over-the-topness but it seemed a lot less campy. Craig is pretty good but you can tell who his prototype was.

Can't accept Craig because he doesn't look like James Bond. Wrong face-shape, hair, ears. He did a really excellent job playing the part of some other, rather similar, secret agent; but he doesn't fit the look.

As for the rest, argh. I went with Brosnan but guardedly, and only because Connery already had enough votes.

I think what's really required is to play Mr. Potato Head a little, here.

Daniel Craig's physical acting was spot-on. So was Sean Connery's (making adjustments for what was then the state-of-the-art, stunts-wise). They were rough enough.

But Brosnan and Moore did the suave/witty thing better than the others. (As he got older, Moore sometimes took it a shade too far into comic territory; but again, one has to account for the style-shift of the late-70's/early-80's.) Connery delivered some lines well, and his vocal timbre is rich, too...but, sorry folks, he needed a different accent. Connery could never help letting the Scot leak into every line. (Although, hey: At least he was playing an Englishman. He could have been playing a Spaniard or a Lithuanian Submarine Captain.)

And then there's the look. As I've stated, Craig just doesn't have it.

We need Brosnan's looks, and maybe a bit of Dalton's and a bit of Roger Moore when young and darker-haired. I'm talking Live And Let Die young. (The guy should have bowed out a long time before A View To A Kill, no matter how much I might love both the song and watching Christopher Walken do his Christopher Walken thing.)

Mash all those together, and you have James Bond, in all aspects: The physicality, the smoothness, the wit, the looks, the right accent.

I guess all the casting thus far has been a bit like throwing darts while drunk. A lot of them hit the board (and a few, like Lazenby, didn't) but they've had different degrees of error, in one direction or another, and nobody's yet hit the bullseye.

Connery is my favorite bond because of nostalgia. But, I voted Daniel Craig because his movies are my personal favorites.

Connery 007 #1 forever, but Craig has done a very good job to date...but for pure camp fun , the better Moore selections are hard to beat ...dalton, lazenby, Brosnan, Woody Allen...meh.

Connery, no question. I grew up with Moore (I was a bit too young for the main sequence w/ Connery) so I've always enjoyed them although they definitely veered into cheesy at times. Dalton is probably my least favorite, and Brosnan is ok but bland; I also just didn't like those movies as much anyway. I agree w/ Dr. D that Moore had the right combo of suave/witty. Maybe I'll do the full rewatch as well... maybe in random order to keep it more fair ;-)

I thought I'd read that Craig's "darker" persona is actually more in line with the books (which I haven't read). And I like him and his movies, although they don't really feel like Bond movies, maybe because they're darker... they're more like "international spy thriller that happens to have a guy named Bond in it."

I voted for Craig
Like a few have stated, I also grew up with the Moore Bond though he got a bit campy in the later movies, and he was always my goto Bond, Connery was just the best. Brosnan's was ok but everything was just so over the top understandable for the time period of the movies though, Dalton IMO just plain Sucked it was a lifeless character portrayal. I will admit when I 1st saw the announcement for Craig as the new Bond I was a bit underwhelmed but after watching Casino Royale I was all in with him as the new Bond, He bought a human element to the character that was a bit more believable and the movies just worked cant wait for the new one to come out.

Wow that came out longer than I expected lol, but they were always my favorite movies growing up.

Craig is the most believable one. No karate chops to the neck at least. 😂 Somewhat realistic fight scenes. Besides, his Bond girls are by far the hottest in the series. The next one will have Ana DeArmas, so his record in that regard will be flawless.

I've seen everyone of these movies but the first one I saw in the Move Theater when it was released was "Live and Let Die" I believe I saw "The World is not Enough" in the movie theaters as well. Got to say my all time fave JB actor without a doubt is Shawn Connery with Roger Moore and Pierce Brownson a close second tie. Daniel Craig imo would have been better for a Mad Max sequel but I did like the plot in Skyfall and the ending was unexpected that Timmy Dalton is by far the worst and he must have had a payoff to production managers get the leading roll in the two flops.
Always loved "From Russia with Love" and "Octopussy" as all-time fav's...

Sean Connery forever! At least his first movies were still book adaptations, as opposed to just taking an Ian Flemming book title and create a completely different story. Craig was okay, but he's becoming a giant soy simp off screen which ruins my enjoyment of his movies. Which is happening to my enjoyment of a lot of actors recently.
