What happens to tone when you increase the wire gauge on bobbin?
Does it increase amplitude?
Does it change the freq. response?
Does it increase clarity, reduce noise? Make it sound better, or worse?
Does it provide more attack, less attack? Tighter low end, looser low end?
Anyone want to wager a guess? :sunglasses:

If this a question of wire thickness used for winding pickups? You probably get good results in Seymour Duncan's forum.

It depends. Are you retaining the same number of turns of wire? Or are you going for the same number of ohms?
If you're going for the same number of ohms.. say 5k of 42awg vs. 5k of 43awg, the 5k of 42awg will be louder due to having more turns. You'll have a brighter tone with larger wire, and a more thumpy, tighter bass, and less midrange.

If you're going for the same number of turns, output will be nearly identical, despite the smaller wire having more ohms.

A 10k pickup of 43 awg will have less output than a 9k pickup of 42 awg. Less turns of wire.

Everything changes.
