It kind of just has that old Fender Tweed Deluxe sound, where the amp is adding that natural, slightly broken-up and chimy warble. There are a couple songs where I'd always wondered what effect is on one of the guitar tracks (a couple of Don Felder's solos in Eagles songs, for example) and it turns out to really just be a cranked Tweed Deluxe. The guitar is mixed pretty low in the intro here, so it's not all that easy to discern, but if you listen to the tails of the chord there's really no effect on the guitar. A little reverb, and just the fat warble of something like a Tweed Deluxe. Try a clean patch with a Deluxe or Div13 and that'll probably get you in the ballpark. (It also reminds me of the sound you get with Filtertron style pickups. Not unlike a Guild S-100 maybe? A band-mate of mine plays a Gretch with Filtertrons into a nice old Magnatone amp, and it sounds pretty much like what I'm hearing in that song's intro.)
