Weird volume and noise when connecting into amp FX loop return?

Hey everyone just got my Axe-FX II a couple weeks ago and I'm loving this thing. Been using it mostly into my interface and studio monitors, but today I decided to hook it up to my old 5150 II and Mesa 2x12 cab to hear what it sounds like through a power amp/cab setup. Hooked my guitar cable from one of the unbalanced outputs into the FX return on my 5150 II. Turned off the cab and power amp sims. My apartment picks up a lot of noise, which sucks. I'm not talking about 60 cycle hum or RF interference though. I turned up output 1 on the Axe-FX to hear the guitar and it was coming through fine, but for some reason the volume would drop slightly and then go up again randomly for no reason. Also when turning the output knob on the front of the Axe I would hear some noise while turning it and then it would go away, but still the volume would noticeably keep dropping slightly and then going up. A while back I had tried the same thing with my old Pod. I still get some hum, cause it just happens in my place and its hard to get rid of, but I didn't have these weird volume issues. Haven't had any issues with running the Balanced XLR output straight into my interface and adjusting the output on the Axe. No noise at all with that or turning the output knob up or down. Just weird things happening when running straight into the poweramp of the 5150. Any ideas? Thanks!

if the volume is going up and down with some gear and not others, chances are it's that gear not the axe fx. do you have headphones?

use output 1 to plug into the rig that has the volume dips. when it's dipping, listen in the headphones. out1 and headphones are the same thing, so if it isn't happening in the headphones, but it is on the amp, then it's the amp.

but i think it's the amp anyway :)

I will test it again tomorrow. I was just wondering if there was some setting in the Axe-FX that I needed to change, but I don't think so. The outputs are usually set to stereo, but I don't think that matters. I hope it's not the amp, but then again I hope its not the Axe-FX. I could always try the same setup with my ENGL Invader and see if I get the same result. Pretty sure my cables are perfectly good too.

Today I hooked everything back up again and had it all plugged into my Furman power conditioner to help eliminate any additional noise...although the 5150 II FX-loop has and will always be a bit noisy anyway. When adjusting the output level on the Axe2 I still get a strange noise (kind of sounds like some kind of digital noise/rumble) hard to exactly describe, but it only comes through when adjusting the output. After a second it goes away and everything sounds fine. I threw the amp on standby and plugged in headphones to see if I was getting the same thing and when I cranked up the output and turned it down again I could hear the same noise. I wasn't getting any volume dropping, because I think the other day I had the output down way low cause it was late at night and you can hear a threshold where it likes to get above for output, but I wasn't above that. Not sure if this same noise comes through the XLR outputs, but it's def not my amp if I am hearing it through the headphones too. Anyone have this same issue? I hope I don't have a problem with my particular unit, cause I have only had it a couple weeks and haven't noticed this slight issue until now.

:screamcat::astonished::kissingclosed::sob:Huuuuooouuuuggggghhh....I ..... Finaly.....:fearscream: found someone with the same problem as me and the funny thing is....Im :relieved: running through a 5150.....a mutha fuggn II... too:expressionless:...err i find that you really have two... ish options....run a single pce o sht (short as possible ) MONO instrument cable from fx send (mono/left ....right ..dont matter ahaight....im running hd pro x and I'm willing to bet thats the deal....to combat our old ass relic amps ...mine has this kt 88 power tube aftermarket mod done by the previous owner instead of 6l6s and also i can't really keep my phone around it as it will start whistlin dixie and screamin at me..thats how I've been combatting the rumble...your talking about how it kinda sounds like its clipping all the time and an additional over saturation of the circuit to result in an almost secondary distorted fractured signal along with bleeding mid low mid and lows ......run mono place an fx loop AFTER THE AMP IN THE SIGNAL CHAIN...(probably..:nomouth:)... run into fx return of 5150 2 ...FROOMM..POD HD PRO X OR AXE FX OR ANY OTHER PEDAL ..RACK...AMP..ETCETC....or run direct to audio interface .... then ur fine as is to run balanced i bet
...anywho... best i got for now my man..i want know a professionals take as well ...best of luck brother

like a superimposed shitti mouse fart of a signal ontop of the intended signal ...ive tried running into other amps like star 5w head into 412 AND into SS FENDER 2*12 COMBO and found some low volume clarity and was able(thats because the fender circuit just so happens not to impede too much on our overlying{overlaping} signal from rack mount source like us. its clean enough to run my phone via auxiliary 1/8 inch jack into a 1/8 in to 1/4 in jack...into amp input. and its just so shitty and dry.. that even my phone sounds so good through it...almost like running direct in and then out through studio monitors lol..like i said.. check your ground switch on the back left bottom of peavey bruh.....
im serial check your bass on every part of chain... i was able to mike mine and get phenomenal tones... huge.. less woofy as my 5150 2 was without the hd pro x.. a little learning curve lol but I'm get it i think..:grinning:
....jaanna'

but yeah its in the other amps too if i don't run mono
that mono signal is fat so i run it in mono and i can split the signal into stereo and it cleans it up some and adjust bais and its bais x thereof ...whatever its called by fractal..i aint know...maaayne
bye
