invitation links don't expire, they just may run out of inventory if you wait around.

Correct. We pad the number of invites with an inventory buffer so we can cover all of them, but after some time, it's only fair to send invites to cover "no-shows". Then, there's usually a gap between major phases. When this happens, the older invitations will be manually expired so we can remain very much on top of the number of live invitations vs. the number of available products.

We do try to be accommodating if someone needs more time however. Remember there are rules, but we're also human.

During the FM3 wait it was possible to get an invitation but FAS would be waiting on delivery of a new shipment.

Not quite: it was just QA testing that lagged a bit during the FM3 waitlist. We'd never take anyone's money for a unit that wasn't firmly in process, in house.

I think the invite should have a button for those who want to pass the opportunity. And to be limited for two days.

We don't need this to maximize optimal sales/deliveries.

The real hardcore IT guys will use seconds since January 1, 1970 0:00:00 UTC. We could get rid of these rounding errors in the projections if people posted the exact second everything was sent/received.
