The email waiting list is error prone. I'm betting that of those on the waiting list, the number of those who do not get their order, in order, will be > 0.
A web-based waiting list application will be less prone to human error. Works like so:
User enters email address + captcha
User submits form
<Success?>
Yes: User gets confirmation message with UID, also sent to his email
No: User gets error notification
