wah connection cable question

Im just now getting around to setting up a wah in the axe . Ill be using an ernie ball volume pedal Does it matter if the cables from the axe to the pedal are shielded or would speaker wire work .What are you guys using

I'm using TRS (stereo) cables direct into the back of the axe. Although, since it is not part of the signal chain, I don't see why an unshielded line would hurt - as long as the Axe gets the commands from the pedal.
