Volume Pedal

Sorry for the noob question, but can I just put a standard volume pedal in front of the unit and have it work like it would with a normal amp? Guitar to pedal to input? Or do I have to set up a volume block and set it to the pedal?

Yep. I do this.

Note that it will behave just like putting a volume pedal in front of a traditional rig, such that lowering the volume affects how hard you are hitting the front of the amp/effects with signal. This has a tone impact in a lot of situations.

I just bring this up to contrast this with having a pedal after the main tone stack (e.g. after the amp, which has its own flavor). This either requires using a volume block set to an expression pedal or using a real volume pedal and send/return blocks with the physical IO.

I used to do this with an Ernie Ball VP Jr. When that broke, I decided to add a second expression pedal assigned to global volume. I like the EP better than the VP Jr.

Work great, saves space on floor and in gig bag, and can adjust tension as needed.

I use 2: one for volume and 1 for wah, the volume is adjusted somewhat tight to allow me to set and step off, wah is looser to provide ease of motion.
