Video - Jazz vs Precision explained

I'm not posting to revisit the most asked bass question in the world but just wanted to share this video on the topic. Scott Devine does a good job answering the question and offers a little advice for those new to the electric bass.

In case you're wondering why Scott wears a glove on his left hand it's because it helps him with a rare nerve condition that would otherwise interfere with his playing.

Very cool, thanks for sharing! As a guitarist I never understood the key differences, but at the end of the day it sounds like the Jazz Bass would be my choice for the flexibility and the fact that it has a funkier sound to it.

As a guitarist who wants to play some bass too I am wondering if the Special P-Bass with the additional J-pickup is the best of both worlds or just a lame compromise? I like to have options...spoiled AxeFX user here.

I've always thought of them as enhanced P's. It'll do the p bass sound, and with the j pickup you'll get more attack on that p sound, but you won't really get a true j sound out of one. It's also very dependent on pup placement and the internals as well

Great bass players who make bass guitars look easy to play always impress me. I pick up a bass and my hands are all omg!-it's-so-hard-to-fret-and-play! And he makes those strings look like there's nothing to them.
