using the volume pedal

I am loving my new axe fx 11. I would like some advise in using a volume pedal with the axe. When I lower the volume, especially when using distortion the amount of the distortion also lowers.

Is there something that I could do to maintain the distortion while lowering the volume.

Or just after amp and cabinet and before delay and reverb, so you keep the tail of the effects when lowering the volume...
