Here is a little test using the AX8's FET Preamp direct as a clean amp with a little chorus ...

That's a nice clean tone. I missed this thread the first time around; glad it resurfaced. Will be trying some of the ideas mentioned here. Thanks all.

I do the same thing except I bypass the amp and cab models all together. I run a simple graphic eq and tone down the lows and bring up some highs. Works like a charm, for leads, I simply add a boost and a compressor infront of the dirty amp with some delay and it sounds great. I also increase the volume of my lead and clean patches by using scene modifiers in the in the end mixer block. Basically it's a seamless transition.
