ULTRA FIRMWARE 11.0 MAY 9 2011

Re: ULTRA FIRMWARE 9.0 Updated Presets as of 11/16/09

Reworked Phaser block and particularly the Vibe mode. The Freq. control in the Phaser block now controls the center frequency of the sweep range (as opposed to the start frequency previously). The range of this parameter has been changed accordingly. Existing presets will probably sound the same but auditioning them is recommended.

A new Vibe algorithm has been written and accurately models the classic Univibe sound. A new parameter, BULB BIAS, has been added to the Advanced menu. This parameter allows you to control the quiescent current of the virtual light bulb used in the algorithm. Real Univive pedals have an internal poteniometer to control the quiescent bulb current. Varying this parameter controls how “lumpy” the frequency sweep beahves. Unlike a real Univibe, the Axe-Fx compensates so that the center frequency doesn’t change with the bias (the bias affect on the center frequency parameter is calculated and removed) allowing easier control of the sweep range. This parameter has no effect in the normal phaser modes.

I just wanted to toss this out there....

I think that the new UniVibe sounds simply amazing. The Bulb setting when lowered from its default position really nails what I was looking for. I really appreciate what you did with this update and look forward to exploring it more and more. I have never been too much of a 70's player but, I just have been playing the shit out of the strat I built since I got the update. I can hardly wait to explore the rest of the reworked models.

And because I don't anything to give in return other then my gratitude... I give you guitar porn

That is one sweet piece of Axe P0rn.

and oh by the way Thanx Cliff for version 9 big thumbs up..

Re: ULTRA FIRMWARE 9.0 Updated Presets as of 11/16/09

Beautiful guitar.

I have a whole set of top shelf Strat parts waiting for a flat sided & bound body like that.

Where did you get it, if I might ask?

I'm gonna do mine in a nice ES335 Cherry red whenever I get going...

+++1 for V9.0

Thanks, and believe it or not. 100% warmoth parts except the Kinman pickups. The binding isnt actually binding, its just a natural wood

I caught the Warmoth truss rod adjuster on the neck...

I have a Warmoth neck with a Kingwood fretboard in the parts box waiting for a body...

It's either them or USACG for the body

Great job.

Re: ULTRA FIRMWARE 9.0 Updated Presets as of 11/16/09

I'm having problems too (plus I'm a computer idiot!). I'm using Midiox and an M-audio midisport to the Axe. When I try to send it, it's saying I have no output device selected. Please help an idiot.

Re: ULTRA FIRMWARE 9.0 Updated Presets as of 11/16/09

Dday

I had some problems with my Midisport.

I solved problem by using a powered USB hub. i.e. get one with a power supply. You don't need anything fancy the cheapest will do as long as it powered.

9.01
NOTE: This firmware version may change the sound of your presets. You should audition your presets carefully after upgrading to verify that they sound as intended.
Reworked power amp simulation more accurately models speaker coil inductance and interaction with transformer / power tubes. The net effect is that all amp models will be “chimier” in general.
Amp block now defaults Thump and Warmth to zero when selecting an amp model.
Added “CarolAnn OD2” amp model. Based on the OD2 amplifier designed by Alan Phillips of Carol-Ann Amplifiers, LLC.
Totally reworked “Tweed” amp model. Since this model is based on a ’65 Deluxe Reverb the model name was changed to “Deluxe Verb”.
Reworked “Jr. Blues” model.
Made some minor tweaks to the Blues, Brownface and Blackface models. Renamed Blackface to “Double Verb”. Renamed Blues to “59 Bassguy”.
Reworked CAE+ Rhy and Ld models slightly based on evaluation of Peter Frampton’s unit.
Rewrote Bright Cap algorithm to take into account circuits where the cap on the series resistor is switched rather than the cap on the pot itself. Also accounts for circuits where the series resistor cap is left intact but the pot cap is switched out. This affects the Soldano, Recto, CAE, Fryette and PVH 5105 models.
Reduced Amp block CPU usage slightly.
Added “BB Pre” Drive model. Based on the Xotic BB Preamp.
Improved Compressor block:
-
Changed Studio Compressor RMS detector to true-RMS type.
-
Added lookahead feature to minimize popping when using high compression ratios. The amount of lookahead can be adjusted on the first page of the Compressor menu.
-
Added “AUTO” mode. When Auto mode is on, the attack and release rates are automatically varied according to the program material. The Attack and Release controls then set the minimum attack rate and maximum release rate, respectively (maximum attack time, minimum release time).
-
Added “RMS + Peak” detector mode. In this mode the detector normally runs as a RMS detector but switches to a peak detector on strong transients. This gives the attack speed of a peak detector with the smoothness of an RMS detector.
-
Reworked Pedal type algorithm. The Detector type parameter has been removed as it is no longer relevant.
-
Increased maximum compression of Pedal type.
Rewrote Spring reverb algorithm to improve realism.

will be back after work on some bugs soon !

Re: ULTRA FIRMWARE 9.01

I had practice yesterday with 9.01 and my Brownface (I mistakenly said I used the Blackface earlier) sounded much thinner than what I remembered... I had to default amp sim and select the Brownface. It still sounded a bit weak, so I proceeded to crank the master up a bit to around 6.5 and then the amp came back to what I remember! I didn't change anything else other than the master and that sucker was alive!!!!! My distortion patches were a bit thinner but I adjusted then and they didn't sound the same, so I have to play with them a bit.

Re: ULTRA FIRMWARE 9.01

The old brownface, tweed, and blackface (now the brownface, deluxe verb, and duo verb) have big reductions in bass, noticeably lower mids, a lot more high end content, and I also noticed a drop in gain, but that could've easily been from the changes in frequency energy.

By doing what I did in my earlier post, I was able to reclaim the tone my 9.0 fender patches, but with the benefits of 9.1. This was on the brownface, the old "tweed" and the old "blackface".

I brought bass up 10-20%, reduced depth on any patches that had it, mids up about 10%. Rethink your bright caps if you have them, or just turn them off...not really needed. And if you have patches with treble/presence past noon, you might want to think about pulling those back because they're much stronger. When you're done with that, bring your master or gain up to what your previous patch was.

That should help preserve previous work without taking the amp to defaults.

Added “CarolAnn OD2” amp model. Based on the OD2 amplifier designed by Alan Phillips of Carol-Ann Amplifiers, LLC.

Weird thing I don't see ANY Carol Ann sim requests on the amp sim wishlist. Where's our ENGL Savage 120, or the Orange people have been asking for?

Anyway thanks for the rework on the Fender amp sims, AND the Bright Switch improvement Cliff =D. Can't wait for the standard FW to come out so I can test them.

Best,

Alex

I'd say the Orange's sonic signature is one of the tones definitely missing from the axe.

AND while I appreciate any addition, I was really hoping for:

A JUBILEE http://home.comcast.net/~mamp17/Jubilee%20Layouts.html
or, more so, something like this (as posted in that wishlist) http://caswellamps.studioelectronics.com/

Re: ULTRA FIRMWARE 9.02 FEB 12 2009

I don't get it why some people are so upset by the fact that Cliff modelled an excellent amp, which got extremely flattering ratings like this one here
http://www.premierguitar.com/Magazine/Issue/2008/Oct/Review_Carol_Ann_OD2r.aspx... the guy who made this amp, alan phillips, was kind enough to send Cliff the original scheme of this amp and you expect him to turn down this offer and instead model some likely false schematics of an Engl Savage?

I agree that the Jubilee Head would be a nice addition, but there is no way I'm going to complain about other added amps that don't suit my particular style of playing etc. There's a saying that goes like this, "never look a gift horse in the mouth"...
