Turn MFC101 mark I into mark II?

Did I ready correctly that there is some type of dongle or mod that can change out the MFC input to ethercon?
I sold my MFC101 mkII, tried and HD500 (missed my MFC dearly) and grabbed an MFC101 mkI. I still have the ethercon cable and I like the connector. If so where do I get the dongle and how does it work?

Also, this has an early firmware. Is it safe to upgrade straight to the latest MFC for mark I? Or is there an upgrade path?

That's a bit much... I'll stick with ethernet, thanks.
Any issues upgrading straight to the latest version of MFC from a very old version?

some people just get a ethecon to thernet coupler and leave the coupler peminatly plugged in using a very short ethernet chord so they only plug in and out of the ethercon side of the coupler
