Tricks to breaking through a wall in your playing...

I only know of Frank Gambale from seeing him in Carvin catalogs, and then mentioned occasionally here. Hadn't heard anything he'd done. I just happened upon this video. Damn interesting. Note what he says at 13:14....

 
Here's another one. I know a lot of people have seen this one....I have a while back, though I'd forgotten how intense it is, in particular at 23:20. Essentially he developed his own version of [applied] set theory.


 
One thing that took my playing to the next level was to concentrate on making my left hand fingers independent. To separate the active and passive fingers and to get my fingers under my control. It was mind-numbingly awkward at first and boring, but after a couple months of doing that each day my playing took off. I still have a ways to go; not where I want to be yet. Do a search on youtube for ''Greg Irwin Finger Fitness'' if you are curious about the exercises.
