The VP4 is great not just for Guitar or Bass! Think about about it for Vocals or Keyboards too!

The VP4 is great for guitar and bass.... but it has other applications too!

Last weekend my guys and I jammed on some Zep catalogue stuff and I made some lead vocal presets - that was fun.

While I didn't have a mic pre handy to place/for before it, I just used the VP4 filter block to cut lows and add 10db+ of gain from the SM58 into the PA. In fact I'm getting a VP4 JUST for vocalists to use.

I really like the reverb echo plate on voice for example - bring it in wet mix with foot pedal.

Not just echo and reverb... but you can do pitch shifting (vocal harmonies!) and cool stuff with flangers, phasers, rotaries and tremolos on your voice.

Haven't even touched formants yet. A lot of fun!

So don't limit the application of the VP4 to just guitar or bass -it's great for all kinds of stuff!

ENJOY!

👆 Doing stuff like this is half the reason I got one! The S/PDIF I/O is pure win for the studio. I'll take Fractal effects over, say, Lexicon all day.

I have two vocalist and was actually thinking of getting a VP4 and replacing both my Boss VE-500s. (The Boss gets the job done but it is very lacking in features)

Did you just do xlr to trs cables?

Yep. If you don’t have a preamp before the VP4, I just use the Filter block to add about +10db or so to the signal and hi pass frequencies under 100hz. Then out VP4 into a preamp, or directly into a monitor set for mic input. Adjust accordingly. A wet exp pedal is nice to add reverb/delay in by singer to taste for each song or part too!

I can’t wait to hear more about how you use mics with it and which pres, does it need an impedance matching transformer? I have an RNP which I would think should work fine.

I'm also curious to know how feasible it is to have two independent vocals run with certain blocks only applying to one channel or the other. Basically ending up with two separate mono signals.

So I haven't tried this with any mics, just whipped it up, so I may be missing something, but it would look something like this.

You have to set your unit to be stereo out in AUDIO settings.

You have to really go into expert edit and make sure the reverb inputs are set to Left only for one, then Right only for second one, and balance out for each is hard left/ hard right ... and the same for the delay - I had to use the Multitap delay type because it lets you select just Left or Right input (most regular delay blocks do not off that input select!) -- and then pan those hard too.

You could use the Reverb Out (or MTDelay Out) to add the +10db to signal/boost into PA, but you don't get the 100Hz hi pass a filter block would give you...

I would use Exp1 to control wet one side for singer 1, and Exp 2 to control wet for the other singer#2.

I didn't attached pedals to Delay here...just the reverb -- the reverb I used has a delay as well. I had to use economy reverb to avoid 80% CPU...

Maybe @Admin M@ can improve on this quick preset design for two vocal mics... it may not be "quite right" but it gets you going in the right direction... two independent signal chains hard left and hard right, so two vocalists could use the VP4 for effects...

That's very cool, and great to hear!

Now we're going to have people calling for an autotune block...

No no please no!
Season 5 No GIF by The Office

By the way, you can relax auto-tune using that "Glide Time" parameter. Try that with a lower mix for a BOSS style "live vocal fixer upper".
