The Universe is killing me!

The Marshall Studio JTM got my attention in no small way, and I was only able to kill that urge by throwing together a couple of presets with the JTM model. I’m all better now.

Just when this old tube guy is about to go all-Fractal on myself, Soldano drops the new Astro 20. The Universe is seriously messing with me!
Well that really does look like fun!

But I'm happy here in Fractal-land, and I already own it, and it's lighter, and more flexible. Think I'm good.

But that does look interesting...

Feel the same way. Just got a new power amp and built a 4x12 cabinet with Celestion f12-x200 speakers for my FM3 and then I saw a review of the new Soldano Astro 20. I may just have to get one more tube amp for the collection. ;)

I bought it and returned it. Great amp. I loved it through a cab; less so direct using IRs. Regardless, as soon as I fired up the Fractal (FM9 these days), I had to laugh at myself for even bothering. The FM9 sounded much better to me going direct (although I didn't use the same IR so that could obviously make a big difference).

The FM9 also sounds great though my real cabs. I didn't feel like there's a tone I could dial in on the Astro that I couldn't match with the FM9 in terms of general characteristics and how much I enjoy playing through it. YMMV of course.

This is a pattern I follow.
"oh cool, new product by XYZ....I want to try it"
I tried it...it's cool. Then I fire up my Fractal and think....yeah, I don't need that other product.

Rinse and Repeat.

Always fun to try new gear....but nothing pulls me away from the Fractal products in the end.

Does that work for guitars you want too? :)

I have guitars I love, but they don't keep me from wanting to try other interesting looking ones.

It must sound better in person... I watched a few of the good demos out there and I couldn't get past the upper mids in that thing, too strydent for my aging ears.

Oh yeah, all gear. Guitars (but mainly I just love vintage ones)....of course want to try them all (even though I already have the perfect guitars)

But why buy one amp, when you can buy over 300 in the Fractal?! Plus cabs, effects, control etc.

Buy for the itch, return for the rehab ;)

I love the soldano in fractal.

Do you use it with boost to clean up the sound and if so, which one? Or do you prefer it without boost?

I’m probably going to sell off a few amps in ‘25, but I’ll never be totally ampless. It’s nothing lacking in the FM9, I just love cranking up some real tubes and nothing fills that for me but the genuine article. If I saw one I liked I’d still get it. Which is exactly the reason I won’t be going to look at this Soldano.
