The new Gibson L5 story

Bought it in 2018 but it was not without a little fight to get it right. :)

1-ABR bridges rattle on a guitar like this....replace with a nashville
2-piece of felt between the bridge and tailpiece gets rid of harmonics on hard string hits
3-lift the pole piece on the G string to even the volume between the transition of wound to unwound
4-remove the wiring harness and find the ground for the tone pot was not installed and correct
5-i use d'addario flat wound chromes (11-50), replace the 11 with a 12

Long story short it's finally where I like it. :)

That is one good looking guitar! Did you buy it as used in 2018? Sounds like a lot of issues for a new guitar.

Brand new. The only mess up on Gibson’s part was the tone pot missing ground. The abr bridge they installed was period correct but the L5 is a vibrating beast and those bridges...well they rattle! The felt I use on the older L5 I own too, so it is inherent. it’s not bad and you wouldn’t notice it unless you’re smacking the instrument, but I think that could be why Lee Ritenour chose the type of tailpiece he used...maybe not. But it is quiet as an angel now and a joy to play! Anyway, these hand carved beasts are a little more finnicky than the solid body babies for sure. :)

Sweet! Hope it sounds as good as it looks.
With the Axe, how can you go wrong! :)
It’s not funny that Gibson’s bankruptcy has gotten rid of some good guitars.
I’ll have to share the SG junior I bought too last year but I had my sights on the upscale Epiphone Casino and now they don’t offer it anymore...I’m wondering if that guitar got caught up in the Gibson shuffle...aww shoot.
