That raspy Clapton tone..?

Anyone know what Clapton used to get this raspy tone where this song starts and throughout the tune?
Or what's the key to reproducing the rasp - i know i've run across it before at some point, but don't remember how i did it.

Sounds like a fuzz pedal to me...

Try the "Bender Fuzz" or the "Face Fuzz" with a marshall amp. Also, at times, he used a treble booster pedal.

Probably just the way the amp was mic’ed. You’d be surprised how much affect mic placement and the type of mic can have. You could try adding recording console distortion. It’s the Pre + Drv tab in the speaker block. Select Tube, Vintage or Transformer and dial in the Drive knob to taste and adjust eq. Works great for dialing in Clapton’s Disraeli Gears and WOF kazoo like “Fuzz” tones.
